I just did a VIP option for a local consignment sale. Basically they pick stuff up, and do all the work, you get a lower percentage in exchange. Worth it.

Whatever isn't worn out between my two girls goes to my niece. And my sister is taking my boy clothes too because she plans to have a second and doesn't want to have to start over if it's a boy.
Stuff she doesn't use ends up passed around the family since there are a ton of babies and young kids.

I either pass along to friends that are expecting soon or donate to our church's thrift store. They sell nice pieces and donate the rest to local women's shelters, etc.
Most of our clothes are hand-me-downs or stuff I bought from that same thrift store, lol. So I like to keep the hand me down or donation train going.
I am also saving a few things to make a quilt with someday and to keep in the family for if/when my younger sister has kids.
Selling is a pain in the ass and not worth it to me for the bulk of the clothing. I can usually sell outerwear, boots, like new dresses & shoes without much hassle.
I donate the rest and take the tax deduction.
I also give a lot to friends' kids. Especially if it was passed to me for free or low cost.
How do you do the tax deduction? I've always just dropped off clothes and left.
I just give most of them away. Most of my close friends are done having kids (at least for now), but we've given most of DD2's stuff to another mom at DD1's daycare and a coworker of DH's. It's almost entirely Carters stuff and 90% of it was gifts or hand-me-downs, so I don't have a problem paying it forward.

Get a receipt. Keep a record of what you gave and then you can claim the value at tax time.myou need to (already) itemize your deductions for this to be worth it.
Around here, FB tends to do single items, but Craigslist works better with lots. I counted everything and took several pictures of everything, sorted into like items & folded nicely. (6 short sleeve shirts, 12 pairs of pants, etc.) It seems like big piles or bags of clothes don't sell.
We actually got really lucky & found a lady who bought every lot as we had them ready. She bought the newborn stuff & then sent a text saying she loved it & asked that we text her when we had the next size ready. She was buying them for a friend's young daughter & her baby. She bought everything up to 12 mo (about $40-45/size) plus all of our baby toys.
ETA: I pass a lot on, too. I have a general rule: If it was given to me, I pass it along.
There are two friends I give to from the previous season but I have so many baby clothes left. I just purged them all and donated today. I don't feel like doing my multiple moms consignment sale anymore - it's so much work and can't deal with b/s/t.
I have never tried to sell them. I just give them away. I've gotten so much big stuff for free as gifts and on my neighborhood list serve that it's all a wash. I think I'm still coming out ahead.
I used to do small lots/outfits and price to sell. Now I just want it gone so I post in lots of 20 pieces for $10. If something doesn't go I send it to donation. I have a couple people that have bought tons of things so I usually ask them first.

The things that aren't stained I sell at a large local consignment sale that happens twice a year. I price everything around $1-$3 and usually sell most of it. If it doesn't sell, I mark it 'donate'.
If it's stained but not badly, I donate it to goodwill. If it's badly stained I toss it.

I handed down all of DS's stuff to my SIL. HA gets sold on a buy/sell/trade facebook site. All other name brand clothes get dropped off at our consignment shop. They give me a check for what they want to keep, and I have them donate the rest to our local homeless shelter.
