Ds is going to be 3 next month and still sleeps in his crib. We are thinking about switching him to a bed soon and instead of converting the crib to a toddler bed, we might just get a good bedroom set for him.
How old were your lo's when you made the switch?? Ds seems fine in his crib but I feel like it's almost time...
We just switched DD after her third birthday. We converted her crib to a toddler bed and we'll put her in a queen after we do some construction on her new room. That was we can keep all of the baby furniture in her old room when we have another. She fell out for about a week so I have a few blankets on the floor and also got the ok to wake clock. She wakes up about 30 minute sooner and comes into our bed

DS is 20 months and he just got switched on Saturday due to the fact he was pulling himself up almost trying to swing over the rail. Naps have gotten harder and he hasn't slept as long in the mornings. He is in the converted crib for now.

DD was 2. She could have stayed in it longer, but I was pregnant, and she was going to get booted anyway. We came back from a long weekend camping, and her sleep was already all messed up, so we switched her. It went fine.
DS was 18 months. He tried to climb out and got stuck halfway over. We converted the crib, and he's still in that. There isn't room for anything bigger than a toddler bed on his side of the room, but I've been thinking of finding him one that at least looks more like a big boy bed. He still calls it his crib.

DD1 was 16 months, DD2 was 17 months and DS was 16 months.
DD1 spent a ten day trip sleeping on a sleeping bag on the floor over the holidays and flat out refused her crib after that, but we were relieved since I was pregnant and it meant avoiding buying a second crib. DD2 and DS both climbed out and once they climb out I switch them.
All three were very easy to transition over. We never had nighttime wandering issues or crazy messy room issues or anything. They understood they had to either stay in bed or come look for us. All three slept far better in a twin bed than they ever did in the crib (in fact, neither of the younger two slept through an entire night until they moved).
DS was almost 2 and did fine going into a twin bed with a guard rail thingy. We just moved DD after xmas when she was 22 months because she'd fall asleep on us and then we couldn't transfer her into the crib. She has never liked the crib anyway. She's in a toddler bed just because her room is small and I wanted to save room.
DS transferred so easily it was like he didn't even notice or something. DD was tougher, but she didn't have a good bedtime routine in place, so we were changing that at the same time. Two months in and she loves her bed.

I'm in the same boat. My youngest is almost 3 (in May) and still in the crib. He's made no move to leave and since his brother was escaping at 22 months, I'm enjoying it!
But we are doing the switch around his birthday since my oldest is getting a new bed for his 5th birthday. Ds2 will get his brother's old race car bed.

19mo and 21mo; neither had a problem. I really thought we'd have dd3 in the crib by now but we don't. Neither ever tried to climb out we just made the switch.
DD1 was 3 and I had to bribe her. She absolutely loved her crib, never tried to climb out and was a great sleeper. But she was getting too big and transitioned to a twin fairly easily.
In true DD2 fashion, she learned how to climb out at 2.5 while we were on vacation. My poor MIL. She switched to a twin when we got back.
DS and I coslept in a queen bed on the floor of his nursery since he was about 6 months old. He started the night out and napped in a crib till about 18 months. Then he napped in the bed too.
He still sleeps in a queen on the floor of his room. He does acrobatic moves in his sleep so I've left the mattress on the floor. We plan to move houses this summer so I am getting a very low Scandinavian style frame for him when he gets a new room. He's 4.

My kids are the same way. I don't think I really slept for the first week after they got bunk beds.

DS got the side taken off of his crib at around 3 and then a twin bed about six months later, I think. He never climbed out, so I didn't feel the need to switch him, but DH was adamant that he was "too old for the crib" and we went ahead with it. It was a far smoother transition than I expected, thankfully.

We waited till around 3 with both mine...they were both still happy in their cribs till then. Ds had already given up naps when we switched, but still did 'quiet time' in his crib when dd was napping and I loved having him contained for that...it got much harder after we switched to a bed. DD still napped and still continued to nap for a good while after we made the switch (i was worried but she is my obedient one so it was fine). And we did do a toddler bed for maybe a year before getting them big beds, but that was because their cribs converted and I wasn't ready at 3 to pick out a bed and new bedding and whatnot, I did that for both of them for their 4th birthdays, but I think they would have been fine at 3 in regular beds.
DS1 was right around 2.5. We took the front off his crib but he hated it. Tried the mattress on the floor, that didn't work either. He bought a twin bunk/loft and he loved it.

Dh was thinking maybe we should first take the side off the crib and then do the bed over the summer. I think we might try your method ds doesn't climb out either so that's why we haven't done it yet.
We tried taking the side off DS's crib and putting the toddler rail on. He would cry and ask where the rest of his crib was. But he was climbing out all the time and I was worried about safety which is why we moved him so young

2.5 and right before 2. They were both climbing out before we made the switch. I loved the crib.
DD went to a toddler bed for a couple months then to a full. DS and dd shared the full for awhile and now they both have their own twins. They mostly sleep there.

So for the first time ever, I had a kid climb out of their crib today! DD was acting all crazy earlier and then told DH she was tired, so he put her in the crib to see if she would nap and about 30 seconds later she trotted on out to the living room. Sooooo...I took the sides off of their cribs. I really hope they continue to sleep at night and don't pull any crazy shenanigans...
We coslept until 18 months, toddler crib until 28ish months, then a twin.
How did you stop co sleeping? Did you just CIO? We are trying to figure this out right now. I put DD to bed in her crib every night but after a couple hours she ends up in bed with me, which I wouldn't mind but baby #2 will be here soon and I was hoping she would sleep on her own by now.

I never did CIO as I understand it but there were some tears. Night weaning/toddler bed was much harder than moving to the big bed in her bedroom. I talked to her about it for 2 days prior, and after nursing a few minutes and a countdown, I rocked her to almost sleep and put her in the toddler bed next to me. She cried hard the first few days but I held her and rocked. She'd wake up once or twice crying and I'd do the same, rock or pat her. It was done in 4 or 5 days and as a big softy, I felt good about it.
Honestly, she was just read to go into her own room at two. I thought we'd do naps in her room first for a couple days but on the day we set it up, she wanted to sleep in it and she was done.
