We have one.
Sometimes they open room discounts early to cardholders, but it hasn't seemed to happen the last few times.
We use our card to book the trip. It's not a card we use often aside from that. Mostly, we keep it for the additional character meet and greet perk and the Disney Store discount.
If you have Chase bank accounts you can get a free Disney debit card that gives you the same access to meet and greet and product discounts. I worked for Chase for years and the points really are not all that great. You'd be better off earning points that you can redeem for cash and then use that cash towards your trip. I use my Chase freedom to do just that.
We have the one that doesn't have an annual fee. We have used it to book a vacation package and gotten 6 months no interest. We also use it for the character meet and greets and for the 10% discount at stores. We usually wait until the last day and do all of our shopping for souvenirs and gifts so we can reach the $50 threshold and get 10% off.
We have one. I have neither rants nor raves, but I do like the card. I don't use it a ton, but I've gathered up a decent amount of points over the years. We went in 2007 and used our "free points" to do the Seas Aqua Tour (we got in the Living Seas tank and swam with all the fish, plus got a backstage tour of th facility). It also funded all of our drinking for seven nights. We haven't been back since but have continued to use the card sporadically. Now we've accrued around $600 to use on this summer's trip with DD.

The WDW meet and greets didn't have any stipulations on the type of card used, but the SW meet at DL did. It was strictly for Visa cardholders only.
We like the card for the meet and greets, free photo from the meet and greet, the disney store discounts (online and in the park with a minimum of $50), dining discount at some park restaurants like Epcot's biergarten. They used to offer a small discount for the half-marathon, but that went away recently (at least the last time we registered for one). We got the card when the sign on bonus was $200. We get better benefits from our Amex, so the Disney card isn't our primary card. It only earns 10%, so it accumulates slowly especially since we don't use it often. We will probably use it more when Costco shifts over to Visa though. It's nice to have, but the perks aren't amazing.

My friend has one, the points expire on hers but can be used to buy gift card. The gift cards don't expire so she just cashes in points before she loses them. She's had the card for 5+ years and still doesn't have enough money for a vacation.
When we got ours it was through a deal: $200 statement credit. We each got one and my mom did too so we saved $450 (Net the $50 annual fees charged upfront).

It is a visa Disney debit and can be used for the meet and greets just like the credit card.

the sign at the Vader M&G at Disney World specifically said credit and I saw them turn away a debit card person in December. Only the Epcot meet is listed on the debit card website
ETA: I would hope people would complain enough that they would change it

Right. We have both. But only the credit card can be used for the SW meet and greet. They won't accept the debit for that one. The meet at Epcot and DL, yes, debit is fine. But Launch Bay at DL CA was strictly for credit card holders.

I think it's pretty lame. I used it for a down payment on my car and all of my Xmas shopping and I still only have $100 in rewards. I will keep it for the M&g's and discounts but I will use my other cash back card more.
I got it for the meet and greets and dining/store discounts. They also had a promotion where you get $250 for signing up and spending $500 in 3 months. It's not bad for a free card.
