I just finished my second skein on my pinwheel blanket. The yarn is universal jubilation kettle dyed - it's discontinued, but it's 100% merino, not superwash. The yarn has no twist - it's essentially tiny roving. For my first join, I attempted a felted join, which made the most sense to me given the characteristics of the yarn (animal fiber, no twist), but it did not take. No amount of spit/water and rubbing made those two yarns stick together, for whatever bizarre reason.
My other go-to join is the russian join, but I'm thinking without a twist, that won't be so great either. I'd rather not do magic knot ever.
Any suggestions of how to get this yarn to befriend itself?
Depending on yarn weight, I'll sometimes knit 5-10 stitches or so with both new and old skeins held as one, continue with the new yarn, and sew both ends in later. Or knit more stitches together and just cut off the ends.
