"Why would you ruin perfectly good peanuts by adding candy corn? That's like saying hey, I have these awesome nachos, guess I better add some dryer lint." - Nonny
I'm not saying booby deserved to have her job contacted.
But there have been many posts here about news articles where someone wrote a shitty comment on either a receipt or something and they were found out and it was sent to there boss and it blew up to a big mess.
I'm pretty sure in all or most of those cases the general consensus was it was deserved.
What is different in those stories vs here? Is it micro aggressions vs flat out bigotry/racism? Is there a difference after someone was called out for it and continued to be glib about it?
Again I'm not saying booby employer should have been contacted,(if that actually happened) but I don't understand the difference between this and some of the news/internet stories where people where all "that's what you get"
(I could be wrong and confusing reactions on Reddit vs here to these kinds of stories so if that's the case I'm sorry)
Internet vigilantism is a weird beast that no one can control. I would hope that here at least we have a hard, bright, shiny line that we don't ever cross over into real life. A code of honor that we should all be abiding by regardless of the situation.

Sorry for typos. I hate Swype.
Let the record show that I don't agree with this nonsense.
I probably shouldn't have posted anything, because it's not at all helpful to the scenario.
I'm not trying to make any justifications to either side of this case.
I'm not saying booby deserved to have her job contacted.

Nooo not a bad brit brit gif. Shit, I shouldn't have posted anything, seriously, it was a random half awake/half hungover thought.
I don't know that receipts are a good analogy. In those cases, the server usually posts it somewhere and it goes viral. Boss finds out of his/own accord and takes action.
In this case, someone contacted the boss directly (IF it happened).
JFC I finally got through this thread! It literally took me all of yesterday and I'm just finishing this morning.
I didn't notice Booby until this blew up last month, in fact I can't even remember what her screen name was when it was happening. I first noticed when she made the comment about the "scary" women, and I knew exactly what she was saying, and my jaw dropped. I haven't had years with her, so that was my first impression. All it took for me. I'm not a fan. I can understand having years with a friend and remaining friends. I've been very good friend for decades with a woman who it turns out is against gay marriage. That should totally be a deal breaker for me, in fact it's hard to even type that out, but we're still very good friends.
I'm wondering though if ANY of Booby's friends who believe the email was sent to her boss, have seen the alleged email. I'm assuming no, since no one has come out and said it, but do you really believe that she wouldn't have taken out her cell and snapped a picture if she were uncomfortable forwarding it? IDK it's just very believable to me. I can understand you wanting to believe it, but it seems pretty unlikely. That said, if it happened, it shouldn't have.
Kirkette, I want to tell you that although you probably don't know me from Adam, I admire your strength and patience, and it really pisses me off that you have to keep defending yourself. There's actually so much more I want to say, but am expecting company in an hour so I'd better get.
You're not saying she deserved it but she kind of deserved it? Or other people deserved it so she deserved it too? What?
I've stayed out of this thread altogether, but I will say she certainly didn't deserve it, but in fact similar asshole behavior has resulted in in similar irl contacts. I don't think those people deserved it, either (even assholes who cite God when they leave zero tip and worse) but I'm never surprised any more when I see it happen.

Look, I don't think it's weird at all not to want to send a copy (or a screenshot or a cell pic) of a work email or an email that was sent to your work. Maybe I'm having a harder time with this because I don't work for a private company, but I'm pretty sure I'd say no way to the request for a copy of the email. I don't blame admins for asking for proof, but I don't think the fact booby couldn't produce "the receipts" is a very persuasive argument for the idea that she made the whole thing up.
Really though? It wouldn't have given me any information that the person harassing her at work didn't already have. And I'm a pretty known quantity here - lots of people have met me IRL, know my real name, etc, including friends of booby's. I don't understand the risk of sharing that at all relative to what was already happening.
I think I even gave her my IRL email to send it to (because the PMs are deleted I can only see inbound PMs that came to my email). I usually do when I'm asking for something like this because I feel like it makes people more comfortable to know something about who they are sending to.
Eh, I agree with tamb. Nothing against you, yfm or Ellie, but you both primarily members of CEP- a board that crucified booby. I'm NOT saying that the words that were said to and about her were uncalled for, but I can see why she would be lacking trust for anyone that was affiliated with CEP after what had happened (the email, assuming it's real, which I have no idea about).
That being said, if it had been me and my word was doubted, I would have sent it to a friend on here- someone that I and others trusted to confirm that it had happened as I said.
Well my place of business has a liberal internet policy but I think they would have my ass for sharing emails. Not to mention if this somehow got in the newspaper somewhere (which may be farfetched, but with talk of lawsuits and investigations, you never know) and then suddenly the media or God knows who was requesting more documents from my place of business.
I can't share emails about myself? I am in education and we have strict rules on what we can share, but if my boss forwards me something about me, I sure as hell can send it to my h or whoever I want to talk to about it. It's about me.
Eta emails about students or colleagues would be completely off limits though. But some thing purely about me?!
And you don't see how sharing an email with an Internet stranger would be different?
Again, I'm not defending her actions. I just think that not sending a mod the email isn't concrete proof that it didn't happen.
I do see how it is different. I was commenting on those saying they would be in trouble for sharing email at all....and they have liberal email policies.
but I still don't see the down side especially if she really is worried that it will harm her job. You vcan easily screen shot something and remove indentifable information. So then what would get her in trouble?
