Bali was AMAZING. So beautiful and mysterious and I could go on and on. It was great.. I feel like we need to go back and see everything we missed. (deleted because I'm paranoid)
We had an overnight in Tokyo, so we stayed at a capsule hotel. Fun experience and they were pretty comfy. DH and I shared a 1.5x and it was about the size of a queen bed. The pajamas they lent us were nice but a little warm for being in such a small space.
We stayed 3 nights in Ubud (was supposed to be 4, but we ended up moving to a Holiday Inn in Kuta because of travel buddy's need for A/C). The AirBnB we had was gorgeous and in a good location. The walk into Ubud took about 15 minutes, including the little trail to the villa. It was more like glamping than an actual villa, which was fine for me and DH. The infinity pool helped cool us off every morning and evening. Our host was wonderful and he also took us on a tour one day.
www.airbnb.com/rooms/4754134 We went to the Rice Terrace, Coffee tasting, Elephant Park, Holy Spring Temple, the volcano lake, and monkey forest. We also enjoyed a nice massage and pedicures
We spent a night in Kuta Square at the Holiday Inn and then moved on to South Kuta to another AirBnB property ran by a husband/wife team, but it was more like a resort. There was a restaurant, bar, and spa on the premises. The rooms were nice and the pool view was breathtaking. From there, we went to Ulawatu to see a kecak dance. I've never had a better massage in my life before the spa here. It overlooked the water in an open air hut, with ginger tea in lounge chairs afterward. The sunsets were the best part of the day! Ugh. I want to go back!
I wish we had gone to Tanah Lot, watched a fire dance at one of the places in Ubud, tried a yoga class, hiked more, and ate at more restaurants. We missed out on so much and I don't know when the next chance to go will be
I would recommend it to anyone that can make it! Everyone was so friendly, everything was so cheap, and every view is amazing!
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain

My sister ended up being that kind of traveler, so I won't take her anywhere again (we did Rome, and I need to go back to do all the night stuff I missed because she "had to be back at the hotel before 8pm to call her married boyfriend". She did the same whining about the rain, and "it's dirty", and...
Looks beautiful, hope you have a chance to go back without the extra traveler!

Oh, the dirty comment. Got that one too. She didn't want to go out after 8 because she's "too old for that" at 32.
I'm glad you didn't let your friend ruin the trip. That sunset shot is amazing and the picture of you guys by the waterfall is great.
We honeymooned in Bali but at some point will have to go back. DH was responsible for planning and didn't really plan any activities for our time there, LOL.
Thankfully DH leaves me in charge of planning. haha! There was so much to do and so little time!

Your friend is crazy! Both of those places look amazing! Glad you were able to enjoy your trip despite the Debbie Downer. This is what has scared my H and I away from inviting other people to travel with us. We always wish we had travel friends, but then don't want to end up hating our friends because they ruin our trip!
Bali is high up there on our list of possibilities for later this year. I'll have to keep these Air B&B places in mind!
