What's up with you? Let's talk.
Last night around 8, we got a call from the president of the HOA (who is a little crazy). She was trying to warn us to be extra vigilant to lock our doors and stuff because someone in our neighborhood got egged last week and then her tenant (who lives across the street from us) had her doorbell rung at 4am two nights ago. Which is fine - we live at the entrance to the neighborhood, if we see something, we should be prompt to report it. ANYHOW, she then proceeded to warn us that another former HOA member reminded her that "last week, a whole bunch of trash cans were knocked over" and so it seemed like we're developing a pattern of vandals.
The trash cans were the amusing part because A) we live in an area with pretty assertive bears. They won't attack a human, probably, but they'll do a number on a trash can that smells good. AND B) Last week, we woke up to 45 mph sustained wind with gusts up to 60 on trash day. I personally watched the can across the street blow over. NO, LINDA, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT VANDALS KNOCKED OVER MOST OF THE TRASH CANS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. *sigh*

Here's a photo of linda I found:
In my news, well, not good. My FILs prostate cancer has spread. He has responded well to treatment in the past, so we are trying to be hopeful. So DH and I have been going crazy trying to be at the hospital, help them at home, finish the kitchen some-what, and prep for DD1's birthday celebrations this week. (She is 6 today!)
I hired a young teenager to do some maintenance work on our back yard in the Cumbrian home. Basically, he's removing the rocks we put there (decorative), removing the old weed sheet, tearing out any weeds, putting down new weed sheet and covering back up with rocks. It's going to take some time but I'm okay with that - I'm paying him £10 per hour because I know he could use it. It'll probably be a few weeks before it gets finished (he's coming for 1-1/2 hrs every week).

I have some Linda's in my neighborhood. They post things on the neighborhood FB page about being safe during this upcoming windstorm blah blah blah. We live by the beach old birds and its just a regular old storm. Nothing to write home about. When will I get to the point where normal winter weather is my biggest concern? LOL
I spent a good couple hours at the county courthouse. I was told I needed a new plat for our deck because the old one wasn't valid. After enough arguing back and forth they finally gave me the blank one saying it'll be fine.
After that I went to grab some duck donughts however I regret that decision. They're too rich and now my stomach hurts.
We have a 5th company coming today for an estimate on the deck (I had to rule 2 out and 1 guy said the project is too small for them) however this guy is already 30 min late so I don't have much faith. I get this might be a small project to some but a 20x20 deck isn't that small - it will still take 6 days of work.
Have you done a soil test to see what your lawn really needs? A quick green up doesn't create healthy grass.
We haven't, but we saw some you can test at home...will something like that work? Or do we need to send it off?
I have always done it through my county extension office. You get a kit that explains how to take a sample and where to mail it. Should cost about $15 or so.
We have 3 heating zones in the house. The most recently installed is our kitchen, which used to be grouped with the whole first floor, but it's an addition and really needed its own thermostat to keep it comfortable. Well, the valve on the zone crapped out a week or two ago. DH did the troubleshooting and knew exactly what part needed to be replaced, but he wasn't sure if it was just the top of the valve (might be able to do himself) or the entire valve (involves draining the system and soldering a new one in place, which he won't do himself). So we called the oil company, who we pay a couple hundred bucks a year to have a service plan with. It wasn't an emergency thing, we still had a way to heat the house by manually opening/closing the valve, and it wasn't super cold so we took an appointment for the next day.
Guy comes out during business hours, is late getting there, and has to call for directions because he was too lazy to read the note in the trouble report about our address. He spends 20 minutes at the house, including the time it took him to write up paperwork, and changed out only the top part of the valve which requires only a 1/4 turn to pop off the old one and the same to put the new one on.
We got the bill last weekend: $320 ($200 for the part and $120 for labor). For 20 minutes with a tech with a company we have a contract with, and a part you can get on Amazon Prime for $90. Nice. DH is going to try to negotiate it down, but I have so little faith in oil companies being reasonable, especially when prices and margins are low.

I'm so sleep deprived and busy this morning I put clean underwear on over my dirty. Ha! Thankfully I noticed.
This afternoon DD1 & I were getting groceries for dinner at my ILs when she fell asleep in the car. I just sat in the parking lot and fell asleep too! My SIL was joking later that if any other parents saw me, they'd be envious!

bunnymendelbaum, I'm sorry about your FIL. My exFIL (the most wonderful man ever, despite his son) passed away from that (it had spread from his prostate to his blood and bones). Cancer is a mofo and can suck it!

I'm sorry about your exFIL. It's a horrible disease. My FIL has had it under control for so long, I think we forgot the reality of the situation. He has his appt. today to talk about treatment. I'm just hoping he responds well to it!
