Hair smoothing creme for sleek ponytails?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a creme or wax or something to keep all of these wretched baby hairs etc from flying all over? I've tried sprays, mousses, gels, etc for years and years and nothing's really helped...I don't want to look crunchy or slimy, just sleek and smoothed down. Thanks!
