For those of you who have done a long distance move, how long did it take for your furniture to get from the old house to the new house? I am trying to help advise a client on a closing date and this info would be helpful. Thanks for your help!
About a week for our move from Florida to Arizona. We were the 2nd to last in and 3rd one off the truck. They had stops in LA and Tx so the route was pretty simple.
Four days, but we used a smaller, local mover who regularly makes long distance moves down the east coast. It wasn't without a few headaches, but we saved a ton.
When I moved from KY to WA, it took about 5 days for my household stuff to arrive.
It really depends upon the load and whether your stuff is going to be included with another person's move. For instance, my belongings were the last ones loaded, but the second load off as the truck made a delivery in Montana. There were 3 deliveries on the truck, and the third delivery was being made in Portland, OR.
It generally takes a day or two longer than it would take to drive yourself (because there are regulations on how many hours commercial drivers can go in a day before resting). Also, many moving trucks carry more than one person's goods, so they may have another stop before getting your stuff to your new house.
Many moving companies will be able to give you an estimate within a day or so. (ETA: sorry, not the company but the actual truck driver).
Our most recent move from NW FL to CO took the movers about 4 days.
NC-ID and ID-NC were more like 6-7 days.
NC-UK and UK-FL were several months...that sucked.
2 weeks with a pod-like company but we didn't have an exact delivery address and by the time we did and tried to schedule delivery it was right before a holiday weekend so we had to wait until the following Tuesday.
How far are we talking? I moved from Atl to DC and my stuff got there in ~3 days. Now I was a bit of a pest and I am sure the driver regretted giving me his cell phone cause I kept calling asking for an update.

Chicago to FL. From all the answers, it sounds like a few days to two weeks is normal.
