Is it something I need to be rich to do? I generally spend about $15 on bras, so I don't wanna break the bank --but I'm convinced I'm not in the right size. I don't have a Nordstrom in my city, so can't go there. Any other suggestions. We do have a Soma, Dillard's, etc.

My step mom had me fitted when I was pregnant with C. It was at Nordstroms, which I believe do them for free? All I remember is that the two bras cost something like $150...WAY WAY more than in would ever spend (I haven't bought myself a bra in years...have been lucky to survive with some from my bridal shower and the ones from my step mom...but I do need some new ones soon).
In will say that the ones I got from being fitted were way more comfortable than any bra I have ever had. Made a huge difference having the right size.
You can totally get a bra fitting without also buying anything on the spot! I would recommend finding a smaller, local boutique to do it. Places like Nordstrom or Victoria's Secret will only size you into something they can sell you. The first time I went to a boutique that offered non-traditional sizes, it was life changing. I went from thinking I wore a 34D (according to VS) or a 32D (according to Nordstrom) to finding out that I actually wore a 28G. LIFE CHANGING.

katespade- that's why I'm so sure I have to be in the wrong size. I feel like I've tried like 5 different cup and band sizes and it never fits right. The straps always fall, the cups are never quite right, etc etc. It's infuriating.
wanderingenough - I had very similar issues. I would wear two bras and/or a sports bra over a regular bra every single day, the straps were always falling down and the bands were way too big so they didn't actually support or contain my boobs at all. I can see a visible difference in pictures from before and after I started wearing the right size. I was so frustrated when I figured out that I was being sized incorrectly because they knew they couldn't offer me a bra in the right size and they wanted to make sure they got my money.
I've done it at VS and Dillard's. They do free fittings. I would definitely look into it. I don't think VS sized me correctly just so ya know. Dillard's seemed to be more accurate.
I've never been to a local boutique place to do it.
I agree on finding a local place, I went to one just after Christmas when they had their year end sale. I had never been fitted before.
I can honestly say that when I wear my new bra I can't really tell in wearing one. Obviously it completely supports me, but I can't feel the band, strap or the cup at all.
I went down a band size (was wearing 36, now 34) and i was wearing the right cup size before. My bras now don't dig into me even though I'm wearing a smaller size.

I had one done at Soma, she gave me the exact same size I was already wearing so I guess I was doing ok.
I've been wearing Soma bras for a few years and love them. They have sales twice a year where you can get really good deals (I also shop at the outlet by my mom - just got 2 bras for $39!)
I think they do them at many lingerie stores/departments for free. I will say though, I measured myself using an online guideline- I can't remember exactly how it works, but I was able to size myself this way and found I was a way bigger cup size than I thought. I then ordered a bra online in that size and it fit perfectly.
I was sized in an independent store and found out my band size was too big and that I vary between D/DD. I've been measured in retail stores and it was completely off. A good lingerie shop will also point out the style of bra that suits you better (I.e. Strapless/balconette looks awful on me). Keep in mind your size changes regularly though.
Definitely get one done even if you don't buy that day. I've gone to a local boutique and Nordstrom and thankfully they both told me the same size (less confusion) but it isn't a common store size so I have order online. At least now that I know my size I can watch sales.
Of course breast feeding and pregnancy jacks it all up, so I'm back to cheap VS bras in a size up, because I don't like wasting $80-$100 on bras that will get ruined quickly.
