But I have several minority friends who are Trump supporters. And I just can't. Like, I canNOT wrap my head around being non-white in this country and supporting this man who is essentially a known white supremacist.

I mentioned this in randoms last week, but I was talking to a gentleman at the bar who was black and his wife (and her family) were immigrants from Central America. And yes, he was a Trump supporter. Like, what??

It makes no sense to me. This person on my FB feed basically said, "you take the good with the bad."
My gay coworker walked in from lunch with a Chick-fil-A bag. Gay people like chicken too.
This felt more relevant in my head.
I don't know if this was your point or not, but I feel surprised that anyone votes for any candidate I don't.
And I'm not being snarky, but I dont think its fair to generalize this way. I don't expect black people to all vote dem, gay people to never support Republicans.

I don't think she's saying that all gay people like chicken.
/not funny. I know.
But really, my point, and I suspect @trident 's too, is just that I'm genuinely surprised that a minority, whose pare ts came from Mexico, can get past things like, "we're gonna put up a wall," and got for that candidate. It's mind-boggling. It's not a blanket party statement for me. It's a Trump thing.
1. I'm white so anecdotal at best. 2. My dad's wife and her kids are Venezuelan and her son in law is Cuban. Some of them are trump people. Their take is that they went through the steps or were legally granted citizenship and they value that very much. They sort of turn around and hate on those who don't follow the proper steps. Sort of an explanation? They think trump isn't talking about them. KWIM?

I can't really state it well, but yes to your second part. It's reducing someone's preferences on voting/eating/shopping to one demographic item. People have different priorities, and assuming they will or should act one way because of a visible trait feels wrong.

Ok yes, same point. Except you used real grown up words.
I had a co-worker say he likes him because "he tells it how it is..." I responded "really? That's the way "it is"? So you're a racist, xenophobe, sexist, bigot too? Good to know." My boss was standing there and just laughed.
Coworker A: "He's such an idiot. Everyone thinks those things, but you don't say them out loud!" Coworker B: "Yeah, he should know better than to say that stuff".
^o) so y'all are thinking that but not saying it? Greaaattt.
I love politics. Then I go through the I've reached my saturation point period where I want to smack everyone. FB is awesome for learning about the people that I thought that I knew.
