Only a week left here at my job. It's weird!! But it's been so hectic and frustrating that it's good to be making a change. I will miss my coworkers (well, some of them!) I feel bad (for my close crew) because they are going to be screwed until they get someone to fill my position. My hospital is quite slow on hiring and everyone is flipping out. I've been doing the job of more than one person for quite a while. Nothing planned to celebrate St. Paddy's Day. My kitchen is in shambles so even cooking is minimal. I do need to get a manicure today though. I'm going out after work tomorrow--we are having drinks after work to celebrate my farewell and my nails need to look good LOL.
I am still feeling great from a compliment I received last night. AW ahead, so be warned. Last night as I was wandering through Target contemplating spending my entire paycheck there, as you do at Target, I heard someone say "Ma'am?" I turned around and a woman was walking toward me. Two thoughts ran through my head 1) "Does she think I work here? No, she can't, I'm not wearing red." 2) "I bet she's looking for something and can't find it. I hate when that happens to me." She approached me and said, "I saw you walking through the store in another aisle and I just had to stop you and tell you that you are absolutely gorgeous." I told her she made my life with that sweet compliment and thanked her for being so kind. (heart)
I have a late first date tonight. I have a work dinner and then we are meeting up afterward. I hope this work dinner doesn't drag on or else I am going to skip out early. I'm kind of nervous about this first date. He seems to be exactly what I'm looking for on paper, but we all know how fast that can change once you meet someone in person, lol.
Happy St. Patrick's Day! I have been back to seriously training for a half marathon and I feel great. I ran a marathon in October and have just been running/working out without any purpose since then. Zero motivation when I don't have a goal. After the gym tonight, I am gonna grab a drink. I was thinking beer, but @32flavors inspired me and I think I'll have some whiskey.
I have an interview today and I'm hoping the little bit of Irish I am will bring me some luck! No other St Patty's day plans but to hang out with my sister and the babe. I'm doing a pretty good job of still getting dissertation work done while I'm here, which I'm very glad about.
I remembered last minute to wear green and threw on a cardigan. I stopped by the store on my way in to buy green cupcakes and cookies for my team only to come in and find out they have a whole potluck day planned (I have been on PTO the last two days).
Today was registration for the 200+ mile bike ride that I was debating on doing. I registered, I just can't imagine not doing it and know I would be really upset with myself if I didn't. Last year I was able to finish every day, but wasn't able to do the century(100 miles) day because I didn't make the cut off and had to do the 73 mile route. This year I am determined to bike every single mile that is offered. Now I just have to fundraise the $750 before June to be eligible to keep my spot.
I'm a bit depressed today. I killed some time at Target last night while DDs were in religion class and tried on some clothes. I looked horrible in EVERYTHING!!!. I know That my eating has been out of control and I've gained some weight, but I was pretty upset by how I looked in the mirror. Granted I was bloated but still. I need to seriously do something.

sweetchix, I think Target is seasonally hit-or-miss. Some seasons I think everything fits well, other seasons everything fits oddly and is unflattering. My sister said she felt the same way about their clothes, too.

Today is always such a bittersweet day for me ... 15 years ago xh entered my life and today would have been our 9th wedding anniversary ... OMG how things have changed !!
Tonight I've got my GS leader meeting, my Guinness chocolate cake and the satisfaction that my life is WAY better now than what it was when I met xh

An acquaintance of mine on Facebook posted that it would be a "catastrophe" in her house if she didn't do some leprechaun mischief for her kids to see when they wake up. This was after complaining about how sick she is. I responded that she doesn't have to do everything, that's when she responded with the catastrophe comment. I don't get it, back in the day, we wore green so we wouldn't get pinched, now a days, kids are getting presents.

I don't get it either ... DD had green on, that was enough for me

Same here. No leprechaun or turkey traps (although go we did it once year, but that was enough) with gifts, no elf on the shelf...

St. Patrick's day is for adults, OKAY! Kids get ALLL the other holidays. They get Easter, Christmas, days off school for minor holidays that I don't get off work. This is a day to drink green alcohol and pretend to be Irish even though the Irish can give two shits about this day. LET US HAVE THIS!

My daughter had to make a trap for school
we had to do that too ! Her's is kinda cool, it involved a rock climbing wall and a chute and a rug ?!? Yes a rug to cover the trap door hole she thought I wouldn't be able to find a shamrock rug lol cue up a towel received as a wedding gift - hack this up for your rug ! She was thrilled
I met my friend at the butt crack of dawn for an authentic Irish breakfast and it was awesome to see her. Now heading out to meet friends for my last St. Paddy's as a non-Mom - crazy! No Guinness this year (obviously) but will be great to see every one...and apparently it's not crowded, woohoo!! (I wouldn't go if it were packed, no thanks!) I passed 2 separate bag pipers today walking. I love living in an area that celebrates so well!!

I had an appointment to get a haircut this afternoon. I thought it was at 1, so I got there about 10 minutes early, and it turns out that my appointment was actually for 2. I left to get some lunch, and when I got back, a few of the stylists were talking about St Patrick's Day and wearing green. One of the stylists was saying that her green eyes counted for the green part of her outfit, and the rest of us were saying that it does NOT! However, green hair does, and I just happened to have touched up the teal in my hair, which counts, since it is blue-green. When I was a kid, I read that green was the color for Catholics, and orange was the color for Protestants. I would tell this to people when they came up to pinch me, and that I was covered because my hair was strawberry blond, which was kind of orange-ish. I don't remember where I read that, or if it's true, but everyone believed me, and I never got pinched.

You are absolutely correct! Orange signifies the Northern Protestant. Green, the (Southern) Catholic and republican and the white signifies the hope for peace between the two. There's more to it if you delve but as a very high level summary, you got it!

My mom's dad always made her wear orange on St. Patrick's day and she ALWAYS got pinched and she HATED IT. HATED! That is the extent of my knowledge on this subject. LOL.
