I've mentioned before that Jelly Bean is obsessed with Finding Nemo. She loves the movie and will ask to watch it all the time (but is of course told no more often than not.) Anyway, Finding Nemo is coming out in theaters in 3D. I of course want to take her because I think she'd be over the moon happy. K says she doesn't want the child watching 3D because it can't be safe.
FWIW, we have a 3D tv but we don't let her watch the 3D.
From my brief research online there seems to be no evidence that watching a 3D movie will damage my child. But wwyd?
And for the sake of this question let's assume it's a one time thing, no on going watching at home.

I voted no just because 3D can make me feel weird sometimes and I don't know how a 2.5 year old would handle it. I wouldn't want her getting dizzy or sick.
Neither kid likes 3D movies (we've gone to a couple of them) and always choose the non 3-D option. I have no issues with it from a vision/physical development standpoint, but since they don't like it, I'll save my $$$.
I'm fine with my kids watching 3D movies when they are old enough to understand that they aren't being attacked, lol. We took A to a 3D movie when she was 3 or 4 and she couldn't handle it, she freaked out.
I was curious so I did the googling. I'm sure you probably read that article too. But, my conclusion is that she might not like it, but that viewing one movie will not hurt her at all. I'd probably agree with your decision to not let her watch at home, but I also think that TV watching in general should be pretty restricted so my feelings aren't strongly related to 3D.

Neither C or I like 3D movies, so I wouldn't take my own kids ($ and my enjoyment more than anything), but I think for your situation, it sounds like it could be fun if you have expectations that she may take them off or you may need to leave if she doesn't like it as much.
A and I were just discussing if it would be a fun playdate for our kiddos to see that movie together! Do you need the glasses to make it 3D? Can you watch it regular?
ps - we landed on no, because Brave was an epic fail and I dont want to disturb JB's Nemo viewing

Yes, you need the glasses to make it 3D. I think she would leave them on, because 1) she wears sunglasses well and 2) she loves Nemo that much she would want to see it.
And no, you can't really watch it regular. I mean you could, but it would be sort of blurred.
And I would totally make it a play date, disruptions or not! :-)
I say if you don't mind there's a chance she won't like it and you'll have to leave, go for it. I sometimes experience nausea from all the crazy visual effects, and as an adult I can cope, but as a kid I had a much harder time. If she starts to feel dizzy, nauseated, or overwhelmed, encourage her to close her eyes until she feels better and try again.
I'm guessing K might have some sensitivity to it too, and that's why she's concerned. It's a pretty uneasy feeling sometimes.
