My kids will be going to daycare 2 days/week starting this Tuesday.
My daughter is 10 months old, but she was an early walker so she's pretty much running now. She also eats table foods, drinks from a sippy cup and likes to be entertained (don't we all?)
Based on her age, she was placed in the infant room. There she can nap on her own schedule (in theory). She currently takes 2 naps.
We did a trial day this week, and she was the only mobile baby in the room. She also didn't nap with all the chaos (she was only there 1/2 day, so she only missed one nap). When I picked her up, the toddler room teacher was in her class, and said that it seemed like my daughter would fit in much better in her room.
The school is fine with me putting her in either room. The downside to the toddler room is that she would only get one nap. BUT, there is more structure-- she will go outside more, have time in their indoor play area, start doing arts and crafts, all of which I think she will love. Also, because all of the kids nap at the same time, she will get to sleep with lights dim and no noise.
I hate to push her out of her morning nap, but it is only 2 days a week.
If it were your kid, which room would you put her in?
I'd go for it and put her in the toddler room. It sounds like it will be more stimulating for her. Plus, she's close to the age that many babies drop down to one nap on their own anyway (around one).
I think I was just feeling all sentimental, "but she's my BABY", you know? I also worry that I push her to do big kid things faster because she's my second.
Writing it all out, and getting your feedback, I think toddler room probably is the way to go.
Our daycare has a requirement of 12 months in the infant room and since my boys were also early walkers we had about 2 months of them trampling babies and tearing things off of walls out of boredom.
I just got back from a playdate with 2 non-walking 1 year olds. My daughter terrorized them the entire time. So that pretty much cemented the decision that toddler room is the way to go. I have a feeling the baby room peoPle would hate her pretty fast if she stayed there.
