I think H might finally be willing to consider replacing our couch. We had to wash one of the cushion covers yesterday (Thanks, Gus) and it kind of fell apart in the washer, so our couch is currently missing a cushion and we haven't figured out if it's possible to fix the cover or not.
Guidelines: I like having an L-shaped couch, but I wouldn't be opposed to considering a couch/chair set. I don't have any opinions on leather vs. fabric or color (except that we have a red accent wall in our living room). I hate that the cushions on our current couch aren't attached to the frame, and that the back cushions are pillows. They're such a pain in the ass to keep in place.
Do you want it to last for a long time or is mediocre quality alright?
We definitely want something that's going to last a decent amount of time. We went for cost over quality with our current couch, and we've regretted it.
He thinks that the dogs would destroy a leather couch. I think that constantly washing fabric couches would cause more damage than dog paws on leather.
Blue Moon - That's a great looking couch! Are the back cushions attached or loose? Ours aren't attached and it always seems to be causing issues.
I will never buy another couch without attached back cushions again. They are always getting squashed down by the kids and animals and look like crap.
Yes! Ours dig in behind the cushions and push them out of place, we can never get them to sit quite right, some of them are flat while some of them are still fully fluffed... also, the dogs are always losing their toys behind and/or under them, then digging into the couch to try and get them back.
That style seems to be a trend right now, though, which is significantly limiting my shopping options. Haha.
Do you have a value city furniture in your area? We've been surprisingly pleased with our couch from there. H's brother has the exact same one a year or two older and his has worn well with four kids even.

It's an artificial leather L sectional.
I've never heard of Value City so u don't think we have them around here, but I'll look it up to check!

Do you have the link to this one? I love that. We have a leather (maybe fake leather? not sure- we bought used) that the ends recline, and I leave my end reclined all the time.
There are a few tiny little scratches in the couch, but very few for having the couch with dogs since 2013.

Oh, and we are against fabric because I don't want to smell dog every time I nap face down.
There is dog hair everywhere in my life. I would like to be able to sit on my couch without having to then change my clothes if I plan to leave the house again.

There is no dog hair on our couches, but believe me, you will probably still have to change clothes...
We made the mistake of getting a dark and a light colored dog. No matter what I wear now, there's visible hair. Part of it is because instead of jumping up on us and knocking us down when they greet us, they like to run under/in between our legs.
