We have Paw Patrol, Cars, Thomas, and days of the week ones from Old Navy. He's been PT'd for almost a year now and they are all still in good shape! (he's still in the same 2T-3T underwear even though he's almost 4... he's so skinny!)
They're totally fine. Thinner = easier to clean ;-)

I think the character ones are thin/cheap, but DS does not care. The best quality ones are from Garanimals at Walmart - we have colors, stripes, simple prints.
I used the Oh Crap book, which treats night/nap as separate from day training. This book was fantastic for us.
DS dropped the diaper for nap in ~3 months and overnight in 5 months.
My son doesn't care about quality....they just have to have Paw Patrol, Blaze and the Monster Machines or Ninja Turtles on them and he's happy. My daughter is the same way. She wears those cheap looking ones with the colored edging on them and hasn't complained yet.
We've only bought the target character ones from the beginning. The same pack I bought in the beginning is still in the rotation and it's been almost two years so you definitely don't need to worry about the quality. We now have like 30 pairs though because we kept wanting the different characters
my daughter has a pack of boy undies because she wanted monsters inc/cars and they are thicker but I don't really like that actually. They seem uncomfortable and harder to pull up on her own
We also have the Target character ones. DD1 seems to like them and I think they're fine, given that I've had to throw away a fair number due to poops that were too messy to be worth my while to clean out of $1-2 underpants.
All of dd's undies are thin. I have yet to find any that are thick and nice quality. She has been in the same size since she potty trained and never had accidents. I would pay more for better undies if I could find some.
On the flip side, ds undies are very thick and much better quality. Both are character undies. He's not PT yet though and only wears them at home when he wants so idk how well they'll hold up.
