Is it really difficult to get from resort to Resort ?
We are staying at BLT in September but I'd love to try a few restaurants at different resorts. I know the ones on the monorail should be easy enough but what about getting to Boardwalk or Disney Springs?
We won't have a car and my kids will be 5, 3, and just turning 1.
You CAN walk or take the monorail to MK and then get buses to Boardwalk or other resorts. And you CAN take a bus from CR/BLT to Disney Springs. But in practice, I find it all to be way too much of a PITA with small children and would stick to the monorail resorts and park restaurants. You can take the boat from CR/BLT to Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness; we had a good time at the Whispering Canyon dinner with young kids.
No big deal to bus to Disney Springs (IMO) - with kids, bussing to a park and catching another bus to a resort is kind of a pain. We do it but I can see how people don't like it. I would plan the Boardwalk area meals on a day you are in EPCOT if possible so you can just walk over.
There will be a direct bus to Disney Springs, so easy. And staying at BLT, you probably have the easiest time of anyone since you can literally walk to the bus stops in front of the magic kingdom and go to any resort directly. So, for this trip, it's pretty easy. If you were staying at a different restart, it would not be as easy.
One idea is to walk over to the busstop at MK, take the bus to the boardwalk resort you want to eat at - maybe a super early dinner? Then spend the evening in epcot and monorail home.
Just remember it can potentially take an hour or more to get from resort to resort. The buses can be full or running late. It's much easier to stick with restaurants at your resort or the parks.
That said, we are planning on dinner at Jiko one night. Since we aren't staying anywhere near AKL we will take a taxi or über.
RE my earlier comment on Disney Springs, I agree getting there is pretty easy, but it's HUGE and almost always wall to wall people. I'm not a big shopper so I don't really care for it. The Trex restaurant is fun though if you have a dinosaur lover.
Do you think getting to Epcot for dinner will be too much, if we aren't already there? I was thinking about going for two dinners but only doing the park for a day. I'll have park hoppers.
I have a feeling we won't last all day at the parks but we have a full week and I'm skipping HS. So, my hope is to use pool for a little bit in afternoon/rest then early dinners....5ish. I just worry about too much back and forth with little ones.
I already have some ADRs but will switch them around.
For Epcot, yes and no. You can take the monorail from BLT but be aware you have to transfer so it does take some time. Also most of the table service (all except Coral Reef) are quite a distance from the entrance. It may actually be faster to take a bus to Beach Club and go in the back entrance depending on what restaurant.
I prefer using the monorail because you don't have to worry about closing strollers, if you'll have those.
But it's true that the beach club is so close to the international gateway at Epcot that it might make more sense to do it that way.
Ending the day with dinner at Epcot is our favorite and how we end most days. We go in after nap/rest/pool time for dinner around 4/5. Then we meander at world showcase, shop, grab a drink and/or dessert and watch illuminations.
