Has anybody done this with their kids? Is it worth it? How long does the process take? My DD will be 4.5 when we go. I am thinking about taking her to do the basic package, and she'd wear her own dress. There will be 6 of us total, can we all watch or is it something where I would take her alone?

My daughter did it for her 4th birthday, it was her gift. She wore her own dress, I can't remember what package we got, but she looked adorable after. We had it done at Disneyland and there was no way all of us could fit in the little area, so everyone else saw her after it was done.
We've done it at WDW with a 3 & 5yr old and at DL with a 3, 5 & 7yr old. DH & I watched both times. My 3 & 6yr old are doing it next week at DL and I don't know if my now 9 & 11yr old will fit to watch (they both have done it twice & are a little old for it) but they might because we have the first appointment of the day. Normally I'd say if it's crowded, I wouldn't have any adults in there to watch beyond parents. We bought dresses the day before in Downtown Disney both times. We just did the Crown Package each time. My girls LOVE it.

It took maybe 30-40 minutes for my 4 year old in December. There isn't a ton of space for watching so I don't think I'd have 5 other people in there. It was me with DD2 in the carrier and then DH and we were crammed on the benches with a ton of other parents.
We did it on our past trip and it was awesome. It's a pretty cramped space, so I would only bring one or two adults. I think it took about 45 minutes, maybe less. we brought our own dress and they sis her hair, make-up and nails. You get to keep the make-up pallete, comb, face jewels and nail polish and they give you a drawstring backpack. it was a really fun experience.
Here she is with her "Fairy Godmother in training":
ETA: I forgot, you also get a sash, a tiara, and a rhinestone Mickey barrette
How old would you say this is good for? DD is almost 6...did I miss the window?
Definitely not too old! They allow up to age 12, but I think probably 8-10 is the end of the window for most kids.
My (will then be) 5 year old is excited to do it again in the fall.
Thanks! I've always wanted to do it, but never want to "waste" the ride time. And I feel like it's not as magical to get it done downtown. But then I feel like she has to do it at least once, ykwim?
Idk, maybe we could do it downtown on like arrival day, it's still a good experience...

we did it before the park opened so it didn't take time away from other attractions. It actually became an advantage b/c then we could walk right into the Cinderella meet and greet before the lines got long.

My girls did it last March...Kate was just turning 3, and Ella was 4. I bought them really cute Cinderella dresses from the Disney Store that weren't princess costume dresses. My main goal was keeping them comfortable, and princess costume dresses never seem to fit them right. They loved the experience!
Do it! I went in there with DS while DH had the other kids in line for something and I wanted to make myself an appointment. DS and I had a blast taking pictures and shopping.
