Um, so under Sander's plan, if I have one child, my taxes increase over $16k, but if I have no children, my taxes increase $12k. How in the fuck does that make any sense!? Hillary's plan is the only one that actually makes sense in this regard ($120 with one child, $180 without any).
Deep, cleansing breath - even if Bernie is elected no sane Congress is going to pass any of these tax hikes. First you have the Republicans who've all kissed the ring of Grover Norquist, then you have Dems who will get creamed in their next election if they hike taxes this much. Yeah for divided government!
But this is what drives me even more crazy. I would venture to guess that a very large portion of the people who support Bernie because oh my god! He has the BEST ideas! Wouldn't free college and healthcare be AMAZING? would not be willing or able to pay the increase in taxes necessary to support these ideas. So on one hand we have the left wing extremists who want everything for free and have their heads in the clouds for how the hell that could actually happen, and on the other hand we have the racist assholes who support Trump and his "YUGE" tax decreases (as well as walls that other countries will pay for and his other insane ideas) when he's given no actual, fact based plans for how these things will happen.
These are elections for nominees for PRESIDENT! Not a TV one, but one who will run a REAL country and have REAL power and a REAL impact on our lives. I just don't understand.
(And this isn't directed at you, or really anyone on this board. I know I'm preaching to the choir.)

I have no idea how this makes sense, but I got similar figures. Kids = more taxes under Sanders. But, with two or more kids, I'd pay less taxes than with only one, but any number of kids is still more than none.

I mean, I guess I can sort of see it in the sense that people with kids are providing insurance for more than themselves and those kids are the ones getting free college, but parents are also putting a shit ton of money into the economy via outrageous childcare costs and all the other expenses that go along with having a kid. You're telling me I no longer get any sort of credit for bringing up the next generation? Thanks, Bern!
We would pay $8000 more under Bernie. We sadly paid way more than that last year in healthcare expenses. Our premium is over $5000 a year for an awful plan (work pays for the rest of the premium). I would assume if health insurance is covered by the government under Bernie's plan some companies would give they money they aren't spending on that to their employees in wages. Obviously not all would. I'm still voting for HRC, but financially for us Bernie is better, and we aren't poor, just middle class.

Yeah, Bernie will cost us almost $20k according to this.
If I assume that in this magical world our healthcare is totally free, our employers give us raises to offset the healthcare costs they were covering, and we no longer have to worry about education costs for ourselves or our children then it's better, but still probably an increase. And I don't believe any of those things would really happen.
And I've got a BernieBro (one we all know and love) saying that it's between Sanders and Trump because reasons.
I sat on my hands to refrain from commenting on today's post.
I've been doing this a lot lately. Esp when they suggested that they'd have to vote for Trump if it was Trump/HRC, because no way in hell they'd vote for HRC. The privilege to think that way must be real nice.

I'm thinking that taxes wouldn't be higher for people with kids, but maybe he is planning to eliminate some of the tax credits/deductions that are currently in place? Therefore, if you are taking advantage of those today, you'll see a bigger increase in your taxes than if you have no kids and aren't affected by it.

I thought this too at first, but I have similar numbers and I am phased out of being able to take the child tax credit and dependent care deduction. As it stands now, the only tax break I get for a child is the extra exemption.
Yeah, no. I'm fine with paying a little bit more for better social services but there's no fucking way my family could afford an extra 16K out of our budget. I could do some trimming but no amount of cutting cable and gym memberships would make up that kind of shortfall.
TRUMP Yuuuge tax cuts, without explicit offsetting spending cuts. Pay $6,410 less (Tax rate: 14.2%)
CRUZ For most, 10% flat rate on income tax and 16% value-added tax. Pay $4,980 less (Tax rate: 15%)
CLINTON Taxes stay about the same. Pay $110 more (Tax rate: 18%)
SANDERS Big tax increases, mostly on the rich, to pay for big programs. Pay $16,520 more (Tax rate: 27.5%)
Playing around with this and Bernie wasn't kidding when he said he was raising taxes on everyone. I don't see how anyone is going to get away with raising taxes from $800 a year to $4,000 on a family making $35k. That is not going to fly. For example, a single mom making minimum wage would see her taxes go up $1,620!
$44,250 more under Bernie. If we hadn't already paid back student loans and had more expensive health insurance that might sound slightly more desirable.
Anyone post this on their Facebook yet? I'm too scared to.
Yeh.
"If you believe this parlor game you deserve what you will get under Hillary. And God help us all."
That. That was the response.
But the data and analysis were provided by the Tax Policy Center. Why do people insist on digging their heels in when confronted with something that may counter their beliefs? (more or less a rhetorical question)

Waiting for the "but the TPC is in the pocket of HRC."
What I don't understand about this response is that even Bernie says that taxes will increase for everyone under his plan. It's not new info. We just have some dollars and cents now to back it up.

People obviously weren't listening to that part. They only heard the higher taxes on the rich portion of his plan.

One of my friends who lived in Europe before moving back to the states stated that she'd be fine with paying more in taxes to have universal health care and the like. I reminded her that some people couldn't afford what was coming up - single moms were one example.
