I hate for him to eat hard candy, like jolly ranchers, but for some reason I don't care about lollipops. But jolly ranchers, gob stoppers, crap like that I say no to. Otherwise I let him have whatever. He's actually pretty good at portion control for his age. He'll have a couple of pieces then stop. He didn't learn that from his parents lol.

She's 5 and she's allowed pretty much anything except round hard candy (for choking hazard reasons). Other then that day of she's allowed to go crazy then the candy goes in the treat jar in the pantry and she has to ask for more. Usually she'll ask for a piece after dinner a few nights a week which I think is fine. Moderation is my goal.

No gum, no whole peanuts and no real sticky stuff. She gets suckers after dance class which really annoys the shit out of me. I don't need for them to be giving shit to my kid. She has ballet and tap on the same day and she is only allowed to have the one sucker and she is lucky to even get that at all. She does have something for dessert every night so it is not like I am anti sweet (because I'm not for myself either). I would just like for her to be a candy snob like I am. I only have good European chocolate and cookies in the house for the most part. I don't like to waste my calories on crappy sweets I am firm on the no gum and no whole peanuts. Yes even at almost 6
It's more choking stuff or really hard/sticky things, because I worry about her teeth. Laffy Taffy, Starburst, Lemonheads, Airheads and Gobstoppers are all things she got today that I don't want her to have. I'm ok with the jelly beans, M&M's and Cadbury eggs.
I'll give you my address. Ship all laffy taffy and airheads to me. Please and thank you. That goes for all of you.
I just realized my 7 year old has never had gum. I rarely chew it at home. I'm not even sure he knows what it is. He hates lollipops.
He's picky though. I don't restrict really, he just doesn't ask for much variety. He also forgets about it (Halloween candy, etc). He will eat all chocolate. I'll eat whatever he doesn't.

Growing up, my cousin was never allowed any sweets or candy. She came to visit us, with her parents, around age 10. An entire jar (large jar) of candy went missing. She ate the entire thing.

I regulated it pretty hard when C was little. Kid number 3, all candy is fair game. I don't let her have jolly ranchers because those things are little rectangles of death by choking. C has braces so all of her sticky candy goes to her little sisters. And her mom.

It seems like a 6 year old would regularly eat other things that are larger/more of a choking hazard than a peanut. Like, basically every food?
DS is allergic to dairy, so he can't have much anyway. I also don't let him have gum because he doesn't understand he shouldn't swallow it. I don't let either kid have taffy (scared they'll pull out a tooth) or fun dip because it's messy. Everything else is fine in moderation.

Nothing is off limits except for allergy purposes. Reese is picky. Her favorites are sour candy-she only eats lemon jellybeans and lemon sour patch kids. Pretty much any yellow candy
Her school has a strict no candy, goody bag policy. No birthday treats either. They celebrate all the birthdays for the month on one day of the month and the teacher brings in cupcakes. No other outside food allowed.
Holiday parties are usually fruit and an Oreo.
So for the egg hunt they had eggs filled with stickers.
I love their policy especially as a mom whose kid has food allergy.
Five year old E mainly eats mini m&ms. My 15 year old SS eats anything that doesn't interfere with his braces.
Last night, I gave my 5 year old a small chocolate, foiled wrapped Easter bunny, which was made by a local chocolate shop, and he didn't like it. boo. :/
As per the dentist, sticky stuff is bad- so no Skittles, jelly beans, raisins, gummies, or fruit leather. Also no candies that dissolve slowly like hard candy and lollipops.
I allow a couple occasionally, but DS was great about brushing.
Once sealants are on the hard stuff is a bigger deal because it can damage the barrier..

I cut up Starbursts for the 2.5 year old, no hard candy besides suckers, and they get 1 piece or 5 M&M's Jelly beans, etc, with the exception of Easter, which is pretty much a free for all. I'd say I allow a piece of candy around 4 days a week.
My kids are super healthy eaters and food is not an area we struggle. They are also great with letting me floss, the older one does a mouth rinse, and they both let me help with teeth brushing, and allowing candy is part of the incentive for them taking such good care of their teeth.

I make a special trip to Switzerland every year just to get my kids chocolate. As for other candies, my children think apples and grapes are their candy. Sometimes I take them to the store and they ask me about certain items. I tell them if they eat them all their teeth will rot out of their mouth and worms will crawl out of their gums.
