I feed our Schnauzer Evo and found out on friday from the pet shop that I normally buy it from, that it's discontinued. I wanted to start my research on those sites that we all used to talk about on The Nest, but I lost my bookmarks over time.
I'd also take recommendations from all of you, if you have one. She is 8, about 16 pounds, and has dry flaky itchy skin. We've tried (in the past) California Natural, Fromm Four Star, Wellness Core, Annamaet, and now the Evo (she has done best on the fish version of Evo. It has helped her itchiness tremendously). She needs grain free, and limited ingredient would be good but not necessary.
ETA: the manager of the pet shop recommended Nature's Variety (I believe Instinct, but forget which flavor. It's raw coated and said her dogs do amazingly well on it). Any experience with this?
"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." - Unknown
ETA: We currently feed our Boston Terrier Solid Gold Native Sun with Buffalo, he does really well on it. And no gas, so that is awesome!
Are you sure EVO is discontinued or is your pet shop not carrying it anymore? It is still on the chewy.com
I've been buying the fish version at this specific pet shop for years and they haven't had it the past few times. The manager said whatever they have on the shelf is the last of it because they haven't been able to order it in a while.
(I checked on Evo website and none of the 6 closest stores listed as distributors sell anything Evo).
Canidae Pure is very good for my pups. It's 8 ingredients. They have a fish formula which made my dog's poo a little soft at the end so I switch to the bison and it's been smooth moves ever since!
Natura was bought by P&G who sold it to Mars last year, who promptly discontinued the vast majority of the 3 lines (EVO, CA Natural's, and Innova) last summer. I would not be shocked in the slightest if the remainder of the brands have been discontinued- this is why it's devestating when these shitty food manufacturers buy up the great food companies (DAMMIT NATURA- I'm still SO pissed OFF about this one and it's been YEARS).
We have some specific dietary requirements with a giant breed pup in the home, our current favorite brand that fits our needs is Victor. We really liked Nature's Variety pre-enormous dogs who can't handle their calcium levels.

I read some threads on here about it and one of the most-recommended (and verified by my dog trainer) was for Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream. My dog seems to love it. I get it from Amazon, but I think one of the Costco brands is supposed to be made by the same company?

Costco's Kirkland dog foods are made by Diamond (known for many horrible recalls), TotW is a Diamond food. FWIW, so are Solid Gold and Canidae (which were at one time- great independent brands). Over 90% of pet food brands are owned by 3 rotten companies- it sucks.
Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with Orijen? It's a 5 or 6 star food (depending on the site you read...) They have a 6 fish flavor that I may try.
Champion Foods makes GREAT kibbles (Orijen and Acana). I really like them- they are $$$$$, but, extremely high quality- and one of the longest running indie companies!! Love them for not being sell outs! Can't afford their foods with our crew, though!

I have fed Orijen but I believe I became poor and switched to TOTW. After that my mom was dog sitting and switched them to Earthbound because my dog won a year's supply and then I switched them to Canidae Pure because I'm no longer poor but also because even though I order online, I always pick a brand I can also locally buy. So I would go back to TOTW in a heartbeat if I could find it around this area.
Orijen and Acana are made by the same company, and excellent foods. The Orijen is more for high performance dogs, working dogs etc. Acana is more for regular dogs. I switch between Acana and Fromm.

I didn't know Diamond bought TOTW
That's what we feed. I my 1 year old terrier mix gets the Pacific stream or the Sierra mountain lamb. I rotate.
We have a 4 month golden puppy and and he eats the puppy formula. So far no problems but I'm sad to know it's owned by diamond.

TotW has always been a Diamond company food- they were really, really sneaky with the marketing.
