I eat clean...it's different for everyone. I don't eat dairy, grains, or anything with soy in it because those foods make my endometriosis pain flare up pretty badly.
Some clean eaters will eat whole grains, some won't. You have to do what's best for you. If feeling better is your goal then this looks fine. You may find that after going clean, you don't want beer anymore because of the way it makes you feel.
My one piece of advice - go cold turkey all the way. This starting small and adding foods to eliminate slowly doesn't work because you don't feel the benefits of going clean.... Good luck
I generally eat clean. I think the meaning of the term is really left up to interpretation so there are many different forms of clean eating. I generally don't like to eat processed foods so I buy fresh ingredients and cook from scratch, even things like sauces and salad dressings. Why would you cut out dairy and whole grains?
I think you should look into the "cave man" diet which is pretty much what you've got listed here. You'll find a lot of inovative recipies. I'd also consider eggs unless you don't like them.
THere is nothing particularly wrong with this diet but I'd find it hard to keep, particularly if I was eating out but I am very lazy and don't want to cook from scratch often. I would also consider limiting potatoes and corn since they are less valuable than say a sweet potato or squash.
DH got all militant about clean eating last year. We did a strict diet similiar to what you posted. The only differences was that I used coconut oil only and I allowed some dairy. Whether or not dairy is part of "clean" eating depends on who you ask, but I have no isses with organic dairy that is simply pasteurized. Eggs are also a good protein for me because I'm not a huge meat eater.
I think the thing that really made us lose weight was the lack of nasty carbs and gluten though. I did lose cravings for those things after a weeks.
Ditto hocus. DH has been eating Paleo since September. He's got a ton more energy and lost about 70lbs. Typically this lifestyle shuns most carbs, but when he started lagging a bit a few months ago, he added back in minimal amounts of long grain rice, sweet potatoes, and beans.
I haven't seen a "plan" that I really like the idea of, but here's what I'm thinking:
- fruits, veg (any kind, including potatoes) - lean meats (beef, chicken, fish) - beans - brown rice, quinoa (gluten-free grains) - nuts - olive oil/veg oil - wine/beer (b/c everyone has their limit.)
no dairy, no sugar, no processed foods.
does that look good? my goal is to feel better and end the cravings i have for food that is terrible for me. i feel like crap and i think it's b/c i'm eating like crap. losing weight is a bonus, but not my goal. i'm still nursing.
do you think i should modify anything based on my stated goal?
If you also want to be gluten-free then I'd stick to wine, skip the beer (unless its GF beer) and maybe indulge in (GF) vodka.
You just got a bunch of repins from me. Thanks! DH has been eating paleo for over 2 years now and I'm finally, slowly, reluctantly getting on the bandwagon. Your recipes are great!
Following. I pin a lot of primal/paleo recipes in case you are interested. Its a lot of paleo-ish treats, which aren't a lot of what we eat but I like having the ideas handy!
I know I need to go cold turkey and do this. I have been slowly working my way towards it but I really just need to eliminate sugar all together. I'm afraid I'll miss it. I love chocolate.
I like all the other ideas in this thread to help me.
We've been eating mostly Paleo for almost two weeks now, so similar to your list minus the grains. I felt a little naseous upon waking up for the first couple of days but other than that it's been a lot easier than I thought it would be. I've been eating a lot of fruit and haven't really even been craving sugar. So far I've been on track 80-90% of the time. I am already normal weight and lost two pounds in the first week that I'd been holding onto for months. It is so much easier for me to make healthy choices now that I have clear "rules."
