Can anyone recommend a good place to get birthday cakes within WDW or the Orlando area? We will be celebrating DS's and DD's birthdays while we are there next month.
I know WDW has a cake hotline but am I going to pay a fortune for a little cake from there? Should I just go to a Publix or a local bakery?
FWIW, they will each be getting a really nice cake for their bday party with their friends a couple weeks after we get home from our trip. But they are turning 5 and 3 on the trip and bday cakes are a pretty big deal when you're those ages
It's expensive to get a cake but much less hassle. We have had them delivered to Coral Reef and San Angel Inn in Epcot but you can have them sent to a room too, I believe.
Do you really need an actual cake? There are really cute cupcakes available in almost any theme or character. I came across guides online for where to find them in the parks when I was searching for decorating ideas.
Most restaurants have small generic cakes. You can pay $$$ and order an elaborate cake from the cake hotline. It's my fantasy that someone will do this for me someday.
The cup cakes at all the QS are adorable. I would buy like 6 of those & bring some candles & a lighter.
If you can swing by a Publix (I think they even have online ordering, not sure if they deliver, though), their chocolate fudge cake is the bomb.dot.com. In general, their bakery items are very good.
If you are ordering water and milk and things from Garden Grocer you could probably order a small package of cupcakes ( thinking of regular room mini fridges) there too.
I just checked the store 8 inch Birthday cake is 27.99. I wonder how much the little cakes at Disney are?
mellymel I just checked out the Cake Chatter thread on the dis. OMG SO MANY CAKES. Looks like standard cakes are between 23-35 dollars and can be reserved 72 hours in advance to be brought to your table.

Publix cakes are delicious and not expensive at all!
Another vote for a Publix cake. I got my divorce cake there and it was divine!!
