S/O - Nice thing you've heard in the wild

S/O the flammables you've heard in the wild thread, what nice things have happened to you?

Last night we were at Target, and DD was refusing to be in the cart or be held (because she is a 16 month screaming toddler), and thus was darting in and out of the (mostly empty) aisles happily.  She ran right in front of an older couple, I quickly apologized, they smiled and said "it's ok, we have 5 grandchildren, we totally understand" and they were so nice about it.

I've been approached for baby-related advice at Target on two separate occasions.

Apparently I look like I know what I'm doing?!

I RSVP'd for a birthday party for one of DS's classmates last week. The Mom wrote back that she was excited he could make it, her mom had been helping with daycare pickups the prior week and had commented to her about how charming and helpful DS was. The grand-mom remarked what a "little gentleman!" he was.

He has his moments <3

One of my coworkers today told me that I'm withering away. When you're trying to lose baby weight that's high praise! Lol

When I was in college and working at a large department store on a crazy holiday weekend, a woman waiting on line for a while finally reached my check out and told me I had the patience of Job.

A woman I know of at work commented to me the other day "Didn't you just have a baby? You would never know! You look amazing!".

I wouldn't go that far... but it was nice.

Someone at my ortho's office told me she liked my hair last week. I feel like it's half gone thanks to pp shedding, so I was appreciative.

Someone was watching Caramini and I recently and went out of her way to tell me that "she looks so happy".

I need to boost myself up, so I'll share this story:

After having DD, we went to Bermuda for a wedding, and I was in my bikini and whatnot, caring for DD, whatever. And an older women who was a wedding guest but I didn't know her, saw us and came up to me, and was like, "So and so says that you just had your baby 9 months ago?? I refuse to believe you didn't hire a surrogate. You look absolutely amazing; like you never even were pregnant. And your daughter is gorgeous too."

I'm very body conscious. So, that felt pretty damn good.

A month or so ago we were leaving the indoor playground and C was pitching a holy fit because she didn't want to leave. As I was wrestling her into her shoes a mom who was coming in with older kids gave me a smile and told me I was doing a great job. Stuff like that makes the public scenes a little more bearable

My Mom said to me the other day that my new BIL (married my sister, has full custody of 2 kids from prior marriage that are 9 & 12) said to her that my kids are probably the happiest, best behaved kids he's ever known. <3

À Facebook friend with whom I rarely interact commented on a picture of me and ds1 baking: "I just have to say this, I love your parenting style! "
That was 2yrs ago and it still makes me smile. I'm a good parent on Facebook anyway, haha.

There have been a couple of times when I've been out in public carrying a screaming, kicking toddler out of a store or the library etc. when someone (usually an older woman) held the door open for me and said not to worry, we've all been there. It really helped me keep my spirits up in the moment

There have also been a couple of times when someone (again, usually an older woman) approached us in a restaurantt to tell us our kids were shockingly well behaved. Hah, if only they knew Still, it's a nice thing to say.

When I was about 6 weeks pp I went with the baby to watch my H play softball. He was sitting next to someone I hadn't met before, when I walked in front of the bleachers they were on the guy turned to my H and said "ah, yoga pants. Gods gift to man." My H told me about it later, I still think about it when I'm having an insecure day.

I love reading these! It's a great reminder that sometimes taking 2 seconds to say something kind can change a person's day...and stick with them for a LONG time.

My most recent was something someone did for me. A new member at our church (who I've talked to twice, in passing) heard that my H is out of town this week. I'm home with 2 little ones (one who is now sick) and I'm still on crutches. She looked up my number at church & sent a text yesterday to tell me that she hoped it wasn't weird, but she wanted to bring us dinner. She works two full-time jobs right now and homeschools her kids, but took the time to drop off dinner for us "because I know what it's like to have friends help out when I'm in a tough time & I just saw an opportunity to help you." She just grabbed a refrigerated pizza, bag of salad, carrots, and a package of snacks on her way home from work, but it meant SO much to me.

SO very true.  

It goes along with something my mom says she tries to do, which is make sure you tell the people in your life how important they are to you NOW, vs when they are gone, and you are saying it in a eulogy or similar.  Morbid, maybe, but true. Say what they are worth to you today, not when they are not around to hear it.

And say the nice things to the strangers too.

My DS, who is in 1st grade, had a fundraiser through his school for a charity that helps prevent and improve the lives of people with a specific health issue. He decided he wanted to raise more than anyone else. He nailed it, raising well over $1K calling and knocking on doors of people we know/have said hello to. A few of the people who we are not even close to/barely know made some substantial donations. People can be really generous and kind.

My OB told me my abs looked great during my c/section.

Back when DS1 was around 2.5-3yo and regularly having violent and prolonged sensory meltdowns in public, I was often brought to tears by the unfailing kindness shown to me by other moms. I'd be kneeling in mud in the middle of the zoo, bear-hugging a shrieking child to prevent him from running into the road or slapping me across the face, and moms would walk by and tell me what a great job I was doing, that they remembered those days, and that it would soon pass. I always really appreciated it.

One of the nurses who took care of me after I had the baby walked in to my room and and the first thing she said was was that I was so pretty.

And the NICU nurses told me how great I looked when I was wheeled there (still in in a bed) after I had her to see her for the first time. They said they couldn't believe I had just had a baby. That was so kind of them, I'll never forget it.

The front office ladies at C's school refer to her as a tornado of sunshine because she's constantly moving and so happy. It always makes me smile.

A mom has been picking DD up on Wednesdays to hang out with her DD for a couple of hours. She dealt with mild diarrhea today and apologized ()

I will never forget the moms here who complimented me on my well behaved child while I was dealing with her Montessori bullshit

Best compliment I've ever received (from a colleague who hasn't met my DH to know what he looks like): Your kids are gorgeous, and they look just like you! Working full time? I bet your house is clean too!

I seriously just want to hug her every time I see her.

Dd1's teacher came out of dance today to tell me that dd had a real talent, was leading the class and that she really hopes that she'll continue dancing. It made us both beam.

An old lady at a restaurant told me my children were very polite and well behaved a few weeks ago.

A couple in probably their early 60s were watching the three of us at Cheesecake Factory when J was five months old. The husband came over and said, "We just have to tell you what a wonderful family you are. You can tell you're all so happy, and you're doing such a great job." It was so nice.

When I was about 7 months pregnant, H and I went to an engagement party where we didn't know many people. My H overheard two women say "I hope I look exactly like her when I get pregnant." I didn't hear it myself but I still basked in the compliment, lol.

i can't remember a particular instance but I received many kind comments from others when I breastfed DD in public.

Max's preschool teacher told me she wished that she had a room full of Maxs, and that she assigned him to be locker buddy with the new kid because he was very kind and generous.

Ben was in daycare full day today since special preschool is on Spring Break. When i picked him up tonight a teacher I've never met before just went on and on about how awesome and well-mannered he is! She couldn't say enough nice things about him!

I kinda felt awkward. Is that weird?
