First Communion Gift?

Our nephew (SIL's oldest) is having his first communion in two weeks. If it matters, we aren't invited to the ceremony due to space, but are going to lunch with the rest of the family to celebrate afterwards. I'm not catholic, DH was raised but is not practicing now, so I have no idea what to give, any ideas on what would be an appropriate gift to give? I figured $$, but wasn't sure how much. TIA!


Oh, ETA that DH is nephew's Godfather

Dollars is fine. I've also seen some sort of saint medallion or prayer book or other relic.

We were told only immediate family and grandparents due to space were going to the ceremony, I thought it was strange too, but DH didn't care, lol.

I agree, with all of this. The godparents participate in the Christening so I would confirm that you're truly not invited.

In addition to cash, I would suggest a small religious item as he is the Godfather.  Maybe a Children's Bible or a blessed pin/Saint Medallion for his car seat?

I think cash is totally fine and appropriate. In my family, the amount would be around $250 for a godchild, but that is obviously very personal and family dependent.

I would give 50 to our nieces and godchildren, but I would also include something religious along with it (We did a medal)

My niece just had her first communion a few weeks ago. We gave money and they put it all into her education fund.
