I'm not doing CampNaNo but I've gotten some writing done. I submitted a write-up on my son's recent Taekwondo Tournament for the dojo's newsletter. Then today I submitted a very short poem to my neighborhood poetry review. Small potatoes lol.
I'm still struggling with getting my picture book started.
I stopped writing and focused on the final edit. I got some advice from locals to stop posting on my blog and instead self publish to kindle direct. So that's what I'm doing! My book will start pre-ordering on May 4 and drop May 14. I'm excited AND nervous! Next novel I do I might try the kindle scout program. Once I get through these 2 edits, I'll get back to writing and then it will probably be November....
fatamy, that is so exciting to be self publishing! You'll have to share the link when it's available because I'd love to read it!! That's my ultimate goal with this one I'm working on right now, but I don't know if it'll ever come to fruition. How long has it taken you to get to this point?
I'm dying over here with an intense case of writer's block. I have some time to myself on Tuesday so I'm hoping to get more into the story then when I don't have to answer to anyone for a few hours. I pretty much failed as Camp NaNo, but whatever.
Whats your guys' best tip/trick/hack for getting out of the writers block rut?!
I haven't decided whether I'm going to submit either of my books to agents or not but if I don't or if I just get a million rejections I will probably self publish. However, the more I write, the farther I am from done so it may take years, LOL! I'm LOVING my writing class but I leave every workshop with grand new plans to re-write and so it's never closer to finished.
Can you tell me about your writing class? Are you taking courses toward a writing degree or did you find something like a stand alone creative writing class? I need help. I often feel like I need some direction and a class would help but I'm not interested in getting another degree (at the moment). I just want to write and magically be good at it.
I'm glad you love your class. That sounds amazing.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier! It's not through a college, although the teacher has taught college level creative writing before. I live in the cutest little city on earth (we once were dubbed the city with the most books per capita, I believe) and there's an independent writer .... building? club? I'm not really sure what to call it. There's a little building downtown that hosts writing classes, readings, and various writing groups (science fiction writers, historical writers, etc) and has a board of directors, etc. Members pay dues and have access to the common areas for writing. The organization offers classes in all sorts of things and a friend told me about the class I'm taking. My class is an advanced fiction writing course and it cost about $200 for eight weeks, but they also offer topics like picture book writing, non-fiction, etc. I'm considering taking a 4 day workshop this summer that is supposed to help people polish up their novels.
It's a really great resource and I'm probably going to go ahead and become a member to help support the organization.
I couldn't possibly be more jealous. Thanks for sharing
Probably super belated as far as responses go, but I'm back now. I didn't end up finishing Camp NaNo in April (barely started, for that matter). And then I took an unexpected but necessary break from most of the internet, minus Facebook, while we moved into our new house...and then went on a cruise.
But now we've moved, and most of the necessary unpacking is done, so I should be around more now.

I disappeared and got no writing done in recent weeks. I want to do a full-on outline for my series soon, though. I have a colour coded Google doc I'm using now and hopefully I can kick myself into high gear soon. I want to have most of the series outlined, plotted, and the sub-plots interwoven before November. If I can find my motivation, I will hopefully finish my side book and a silly fan fic this summer.
incogneato those courses sound really interesting. Is novel 2 the one you did during camp or the second part of the trilogy? And any tips/advice you picked up in the course you would like to share with us?
fatamy Congratulations for taking the plunge! How long were you working on this book?
@writererin I also had a cruise in May and will be moving this month. Life sure has a way of getting busy and keeping you from doing what you want, even when you have the best intentions.
mousemelon I hope you overcame your writer's block! I try to either force out the scene or, in a case like NaNo, to do a paragraph or four of what needs to happen in the chapter then skip to the next one. I just try to not do that too often since I find it messes with my flow. Do you have a specific book in mind of yours that you would like to publish one day?
EnchantedSoul Not small potatoes at all! Submitting anything takes courage and is more than a lot of people do. I have never gotten around to that, at least!
Thanks anastasia517, it was my NaNo novel from last year. I did my first round of edits in Jan, then in March, then a few peer edits in April.
I am working on my 2014 NaNo now, I trashed the whole second half and began rewriting it a few weeks ago. I'm hoping to have the rewrite done by September so I can spend October plotting this year's NaNo.
So far my book has only sold 20 copies, but it's on Kindle Unlimited and has had 25k pages read, so that's good I guess? I'm not huge on pushing for sales, I wouldn't even know where to start!

anastasia517, I've been having some personal stuff come up so I haven't written as much as I like but I'm taking a solo vacay this week (YASSSSSS) so I'm taking my laptop with my and will hopefully get some stuff written then.

Welcome revjen! What kind of book are you having edited?
mousemelon, I completely understand. I am going to pick up some writing books to try to kick myself into gear because my motivation is lagging so much.
If anybody has tips to kicking yourself in the butt, I would love to hear them.
