Okay, so, we went to DW and Universal October 2015. We did one day at Universal, the rest of the time at Disney parks. We felt like we didn't see half of Universal and that we buzzed through HP way too quickly.
That said...
We're going to FL Sunday, December 11 - Thursday, December 15. We've priced out all our options, and it's more cost efficient to stay at Universal's Cabana Bay. Bonus perk that we get early admission to HP!
So, this is what we're looking at...
Arrive at the Sanford airport at 12:36 Sunday. It's small, so we can get through baggage and getting our rental probably by 1:15, 1:30 at the latest.
By the time we'd get to Universal or Disney, it would probably be around 2:30.
Now, here's what we can't decide.
We're going to do 2-day Disney Park Hopper tickets, and 2-day Universal park to park w/express unlimited.
We could feasibly get in 3-5 hours at Disney when we arrive Sunday, but I know there's a Christmas party that evening so MK is probably not a great idea.
DS (7yo) loved HS, and Expedition Everest, but when we asked him if he had to choose one park, he chose MK.
Do we go to Universal instead the day we get there? Would we NEED two days of early admission to HP?
Basically, tell me what you'd do in this situation. How would you plan your trip?

So are you not going to a park on departure day? What if your flight is delayed?
Since you have Hoppers I would consider going to MK then another park if you want more time in a park that night.
I don't think you will need two days of early entry into HP but i suppose it depends on crowds and what else you want to do. We went for a day last Oct and focused on HP and saw everything we wanted to see.

Is going to the Christmas party not an option that you would consider? They typically allow you to enter the park a few hours before the party starts so you could do it on your arrival date.

Well, we thought that the Halloween party was pretty lame, and felt like it was an epic waste of money. I read a different thread here and everyone said the Halloween party was better than the Christmas one, so that didn't give me much hope. lol

We enjoyed the Christmas party, a big part of that was the ease of walking on a lot of rides. As a party guest you get to enter the park at 4:00, and then they kick everyone else out at the official start time.
I guess it depends what your goal is. If you go on arrival day, it potentially could be a long night depending on how long you might stay at the party.
That said, how late are the hours at the other parks that night? I might lean towards going to one of those for just a couple of hours.
