I have a sign up for a Nacho Bar on Thursday. I listed the toppings and a place where you can put your name. I also make a place on the sign up sheet for you to bring random stuff like dessert, drinks, etc.

Less than five minutes and people are beotching about if they can only bring Mexican themed food to the pitch-in. 

I GIVE UP. We either have a terrible mishmash of food or all desserts or no desserts, three types of chicken etc. The first time I go with a sign up sheet and a theme, it's like the woooorld is ending.

WHAT??? God that's annoying and bizarre. I'm sorry. I've always had sign up sheets be fairly specific. Also it's a NACHO bar! What do they want to bring that wouldn't fit with that theme?

Potato salad, Asian noodles, pizza, etc. Same shit we have every potluck.

How strange...it's nice to have a theme, especially for the reasons you said. It's the same in my office - we usually end up with a bunch of sides and nothing sustaining or a ton of sweets. Hopefully they'll be adults about it and stick to your plan. I would! That way I wouldn't have to think and think about what to bring!

They can bring anything they want. Not like their hand will get chopped off for bringing other foods.
