Do you start by running for school committee or do you organize the National PTO and the Teacher's lobby to start lobbying Arne Duncan?
As much as I wish there was a concerted backlash I wouldn't even know where to start without possibly hurting my child's education (in terms of the politics of classroom/teacher assignment/grades, etc.)
I'm probably talking out of my ass here, but you would need to vote in representatives that are against testing.
I agree but I'm not sure where you would find them... I'm in the land of repbulicans who I'm sure have started all this testing to eventually privatize education in america
I think part of it is being very vocal with the BOE and Admin. It isn't the teachers that run the show.
No kidding. You would basically need to get all parents on board with skipping the testing day and then get administrators on board with not enforcing "entrance" rules that require testing to get into the next grade or advanced classes.
The other thing you could do is simply refuse to accept the federal money and opt out of NCLB/RTTT, but that would require state-wide organization which would require people to rise about partisanship.
We now have legislation that basically says if you don't score proficient (low pass) on reading in 3rd grade you can't be promoted to 4th grade.

Nice going, legislators.
The thing I don't get is every time any mention of my current legislotor comes up with neighbors even the most conservative ones think he is dumb and yet he keeps getting re-elected.

Sigh. We can't even get our budget passed with state money... never mind without.
