But I'm whinging here, because I'm sure my friends are tired of hearing me stress about it. Yes I knew what I married but still, Mother Nature is a bitch.
My H works on yachts and is currently at sea heading back to Europe. 17+ days until I have any communication from him again.
Not the most dangerous job in the world, but I don't sleep well when he's out there.
So this post is basically just me saying it out loud and getting it off my chest.
So, because you knew what you were getting, and because it's not as bad as some people have it, you don't get to complain? Bullshit. It still sucks being apart. Your friends suck (in this situation).

Aw, I'm sorry. I just noticed your location, too! A boat ride to Europe isn't exactly a long weekend trip! This may sound like a stupid question (er, is a stupid question) but is the trip 17 days one-way? I would actually expect longer, but I have no idea how fast yachts can go. I hope the days fly by for you both!

Thanks. They left from the Bahamas. so it's 17 days from there. On the yacht he is on it would take well over a month possibly two for a trip to Australia.
No such thing as a stupid question. Some boats are fast, some are slow. In my opinion his boat is on the slow side, but hey, it has three levels, two fireplaces, and a dining room that seats 10. She's carrying some weight.
Also, it's not like my H is suffering in squalid race boat conditions. He has a chef preparing his meals and stewardesses that do the laundry. It's just Mother Nature doesn't care and the Atlantic is a big ocean.
I hate people that say things like that! My H works out of town for long stretches 9 months out of the year. One time his mother called me to see if his flight left ok and I told her I was sad he was gone again. She informed me that I knew what I was getting into and "suck it up, buttercup". I wonder what she would have said if I had responded "I'm so glad he is finally gone!!!" One would think she'd be glad her son is with someone that cares and misses him....
I told H to tell her not to call again if she is wondering, she can email him instead.
Just because you knew this was his job doesn't mean you aren't allowed to be worried or miss him!
Thanks for letting me vent. No one has ever actually said the words to me, but I know a whole lot of Military wives, so I try to be sensitive.
scout8 , I did get to do a crossing with them from Port Said, Egypt to Malta so we could finish planning the wedding. It was fun because it was different, but it was sooooo boring compared to the sailing I did at the time. I could never do what he does, and he has less than zero interest in doing what I used to do.

aMrsin09, I hope you know I brought up the military wives not as a way to say that your concerns don't matter but to say that, like them, it's understandable that you'd hate not being able to talk/see for long periods of time.

Oh absolutely.
It really is hard to whinge in person when my own BIL (a major in the Marines) keeps going back to Afghanastan. My sis would be looking at me like "bitch, please"
Vent away! I have no problem with it. I married a kid who worked in a coal fired power plant! Yes we were young. After he graduated in his chosen field, I had a hard time when he would travel and leave me and the kids at home. I get it. Being alone isn't always the greatest.
Once the kids were up and out, being apart was less of an issue. Now il at the place where I kind of enjoy the alone time. :-)
They usually send a daily position update. I hadn't heard from them for a few days and was in the process of contacting the Land manager when hey I get a VM.
They blew something on one of the engines and had to limp into Bermuda. If they have to get to Europe on one engine, I hope he gets there in time to meet me in London.'
On the upside he's picking up a Swizzle Rum Cake for me!
