Nice! What did you get? I was helping people spend money... does that count.
I actually had a couple come in to complete their registry... like, they just up and bought all of the extra stuff that they weren't gifted. I've heard this happens but never actually saw it in action.

Hi. I haven't been around in awhile. Today i mowed the front lawn when it was the hottest part of the day, not a good idea. Other than that just relaxed around the house. I have been feeling down lately.

Hi! We went home for the county fair. I got to spend a half an hour holding sweet baby Mason, to be told that whomever has held him has ended up pregnant in a few weeks Hahaha Husband! Today I went to a baby shower for my dear friend K, it was so special. We drove home and I went to the grocery store to pick up stuff for my Dad's birthday dinner tomorrow. I know have the cake for tomorrow in the oven. As soon as that's out of the oven I'm going to bed. I'm pooped.

Its been slooow here lately.
About an hour ago I heard like 20 gunshots (not an exaggeration) and I've been WIDE awake ever since. I called the cops and they said they haven't gotten any reports. HOW? Anyway, I'm scared out of my mind and jumping at every noise. We live in the middle of nowhere, but in a subdivision. All military and cops, but I'm still freaked.

I was shocking/ convincing a bunch of Japanese nurses into let me keeping my placenta after I give birth. Now, getting ready for my mom to come in this week

We went to a pumpkin fear yesterday. I got sparkling pumpkin wine and sparkling strawberry wine. Yummy!
I have so much to do this week--meetings and stuff that should be done before LO and I go on our Strong Bonds retreat this coming weekend. A friend is watching Smudge. I am so excited about not having to potty the damn dog for 48 entire hours! Seriously, that is what excites me most. <sigh>
LO starts kindergarten in two weeks. So excited and nervous for him!!

Wait. What? What are you going to do with a nasty placenta?

*gasp* with all my research into the Placenta I NEVER saw a placenta teddy bear! That's changed my heart. How disgusting. I'm not doing this. Screw all the awesome benefits that it will give me, my baby and my family. It makes me feel a little grossed out, so I won't do what's best for me when I have the option available.
I think I typed it funny. I said I like your idea better than the odd placenta teddy bear idea. I've done L&D nursing and now I'm a nursery nurse. I'm well aware of placentas and what babies are covered in. I asked in all curiousness because I know there are women who want to take the placenta so the cord will separate naturally. Then there are those who eat the placenta and many, many other reasons. I said I liked your idea because I think I could be ok taking a pill versus eating the placenta. That's actually the first time I've heard about it being put into a pill form and I think that's a really neat idea.
Fun weekend, though. Good end to a hellacious month (which included a business trip that racked up around 120 hours in two weeks, followed by a visit to MIL to check up on her that ended up with her passing away <24 hours after we saw her, and then having to make arrangements for her, and finally, after all that, evacuating the gulf coast from a hurricane...).
Now life is (kinda) back to normal. Or as close to normal as it usually gets. I'm back at my normal gym instead of a hotel gym, eating homemade food again, and getting to sleep in my own bed. Ahh....

So you know women do these things with the placenta, but pretended to be ignorant and rude by calling it nasty. You sound like an awesome nurse.
Keeping the placenta is not a cultural practice that is regularly seen in this area. It happens, but it's rare. I apologize to hilly if my adjective offended you. I think the pill idea is the best option I've ever heard for a placenta. The placenta bear was a joke because it came up when I was googling a picture of a placenta.
suertesiete - I'll call it a cute organ just for you.

Aggie, I find it really surprising you've never heard of encapsulation when you've done L&D nursing. I also think it was incredibly weird and immature that you tried to gross people out by the photo of the placenta after calling it a nasty organ. That thing is AWESOME.
You no longer have to look at the placenta. Even though it is a cute organ. I could go into my thoughts and research on the matter but I'll save the dramz for another day.

Do L&D nurses commonly diagnose mental disorders in children?
Re: I need an ear, this is long. « Reply #44 Today at 12:38pm » Young children can absolutely be diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I haven't assessed the child but from your description, I wouldn't write that off as a diagnosis. Bipolar meds are very sensitive and it can take a long time to get the exact dose needed. Furthermore, they will have to constantly be re-evaluated for the level of effectiveness. And absolutely yes, if you miss ONE dose his behavior will be different. I've had experience with many patients who had bipolar disorder and I promise that medication can help and they can lead a normal life. Also, amber's comment is ludicrous. « Last Edit: Today at 12:39pm by mrsaggie » Report to Mod - Link to Post - Back to Top Logged
Sue- When you go through nursing school you do clinical rotations in psych. I'm pretty sure you also learn basics of different mental illnesses. You don't seem to have a problem with anyone else on the 3 pages of replies giving suggestions. You seem rather snarky for some reason.

She didn't diagnose nor treat. She said that it's in line with what's possible and provided some general info about meds. Lay people (and nurses) can definitely do that.
And I'll speak up and also say that wanting to eat placenta is nasty. If I have part of my liver removed, I'm not keeping it for extra vitamin A. If you take out my spleen, I'm not going to ask for it back so I can supplement my iron. It's an organ, a human organ, and I'm not in the habit of eating my own body parts. Plus, there's no scientific evidence that it's actually beneficial, so there's that.
Post by twoslicehilly on Sept 7, 2012 21:34:24 GMT -5
I'm not getting it removed, though. I'm delivering it naturally, since it comes out attached to my baby. It was my baby's life source, packed with my body's nutrients. Putting those back into my body will be helpful for me and my family. There's been a lot of people that say it helps. Some that say it hasn't. If I can avoid PPD by doing some thing that makes sense to me, I'm going to do it.
I was in a particularly bitchy mood when I originally started drama and it was fueled by that nagging lurker. Afterwards, I made the assumption that you were willing to try something this extreme because of a history of PPD. I know nothing about you hilly. But if you do have a history of PPD, then I don't blame you for trying any and everything. I like being argumentative and supporting UO's but I just can't do it with this. Eating placenta in this area is considered taboo. One concern that I've also read is that since one of the placenta's jobs is to filter, toxins may build up through the pregnancy. Regardless, do as you will and I hope for the best for you.
Sue-whoever - Thank you for being my #1 fan and following me everywhere.
