So this cycle is the first that I'm using a BBT instead of a regular thermometer. The insane accuracy makes my chart look like someones heartrate. It's going up and down and to crazytown and back. There's no telling what's happening where.
I've had such nice looking charts, with a fairly clean line, light ups and downs before up, a rise (over 3 days usually) to about half a degree C (maybe almost a full degree F) higher after O and then very light ups and downs before it lowers again for AF.
I don't chart in FF, so I can't show you, but really, imagine mountains, imagine someone's heart rate on a monitor, that's my temps so far this month since using the BBT.
We're going on vacation in an hour or so for 3 weeks, so I think I'm going to give it a rest the rest of this cycle (temping it is). either I'm pregnant or I'm not (OPKs and my regular cycle days and CM say I should've ovulated this weekend). I'm going to enjoy our vacation and am only going to start temping again when AF shows up. This whole timing and temping and charting thing is starting to get on my nerves.
P.S. Won't have very much internet while on vacay, so I likely won't check in much. See/Read you all again towards the end of the month.
Yeah, my chart looks like the rocky mountains (with a bbt thermometer), but I think that's mostly because it's in C, so a 0.1 difference is actually pretty big (compared to 0.1F). Oh well. If your old thermometer worked better, then just keep using it:-)
I'm super new to charting and feel like I have no idea if I'm doing any of this correctly. Never thought I would be so confused by one little pink thermometer.
First, I don't even know if I'm taking my temperature correctly... I was following the directions that came with it, but who knows if they are correct because they also said don't bother temping during your period, which I then read the opposite on FF. I put it under my tongue, kinda off to one side (that's what the directions said... is that right?) At first I was holding it in place, but then today I just held it with my mouth and the temp was quite a bit lower.
Also, my temps in the morning have been much higher than they are during the rest of the day, and I thought it was supposed to be the other way around?? Usually my normal temp is 96.8-97ish (so a bit lower than the 98.6 average) but in the morning on my BBT I have been coming in at 98.04 for a few days.

It's up to you whether you temp during your period or not. I start about CD 5. Some women like to stay in the habit, others need a break.
I put the thermometer under my tongue to one side, and hold it there, as I am too lazy to hold it with my mouth.
Not sure about having higher/lower temps during different parts of the day. You should try to make sure you are temping about the same time every day, after about 3 hours of sleep. I'm not great about that, but I still get a temp shift. You'll have to see what works for you.

I don't temp during my period. It really doesn't matter (but I also don't temp after confirmed O because I didn't want one more thing to analyze during the 2ww). I can't help you much with the oral temping since I don't do it.
Your temp is the lowest when you're at rest. The way I think of it is like when you're up and moving around, your body produces more heat. Your BBT is actually the lowest temp of the day (if I'm not mistaken).
It sounds like you're doing everything right! Your temperature will vary from day to day depending on loads of factors (temp of the room, tossing and turning, sickness, etc). You're really just looking for the overall shift. As long as you're getting enough sleep before and temping at the same time every day (and using the same method- orally or vaginally) then you should be fine!
