I have a month before we can make ADRs, but I want to get a head start on looking at menus, figuring out where we're going to be and on what day, etc.
When we went last year, we ate at:
Boatwright's Whispering Canyon Kona Le Cellier 50's Diner Tusker House
We definitely want to go back to Le Cellier, but we want to try some new places!
IMPORTANT NOTE: DS hates characters. He's terrified of them. We didn't realize that TH was a character meal, so that was quite an experience. lol. So, the popular character meals are probably a no go for us.
ETA - we're staying at Coronado Springs if that makes a difference.
DD was petrified at her first character meal. She had no idea the characters wouldn't talk and it was a fiasco. However, by the end of the trip she ended up loving them. She just wants to do them on her terms--no hugs, just high fives and autographs. So it may be worth another try unless your DS is really adamant about not doing them.
Our best meals have been at Yachstman Steakhouse, Narcoose's, and 50's PT. We have California Grill booked for our next trip so I'm excited to try that.
We loved the restaurants at AKL. I was nervous because we aren't very food adventurous, but Saana and Boma were so good. We did dinner at both and breakfast at Boma, which was our favorite breakfast.
We also really liked Ohana, we ate before the fireworks and then went out on the beach to watch them, it was so fun.

Some of my favorites in the parks are Be Our Guest (MK), Via Napoli (Epcot), the quick service fish and chips at the UK in Epcot, Sunshine Seasons (quick service, Epcot), 50s Prime Time (HS), Mama Melrose (HS), and Flame Tree BBQ (quick service at AK). Outside of the parks, I like Yachtsman Steakhouse (Yacht Club), Il Mulino (at the Swan or Dolphin, I can't remember which), Kona Cafe (Polynesian), and Narcoosee's (Grand Floridian).
Our favorites this past week were 'Ohana and Sanaa. BOG was good except the kids' steak was way better than DH's! Also enjoyed La Hacienda in Mexico. And the F&G food stands.
How old was DS last time/ will he be? Dd1 hated characters at 18 months, but loved them at 3 and even more so at 4.5. Dd2 was lukewarm at 2, but if I went up with her she was okay.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

He was 7 last time, will be 8. He's very high functioning on the autism spectrum and has some sensory issues too. He did amazingly well for the most part. And even though we've told him over and over again that the characters are just people in costumes, he's still completely freaked out by them. lol
I'd definitely skip the character meals then, they're really overpriced if you aren't doing it for the character interaction (coming from someone who just ate at CRT yesterday....it was good but $60 for oj and French toast is a bit nutty!)
Breakfast - Kona Cafe Lunch - Yak and Yeti Dinner - Via Napoli
Kona Cafe for dinner has always been a favorite until our last trip and I will never eat there again. We had to wait about 40 minutes after our ADR time. If you must go there, don't order the sushi. I was having trouble chewing the seaweed so I tried to cut it with a steak knife and still couldn't cut through. I called the manager over and tried to explain and he cut me off and told me it was fresh and it was fine. He also told me that there was some computer glitch and too many ADRs were made that night. So, terrible food and an absolute ass for a manager. I hate that I love their breakfast so much or I would never go back.
HDDR - It's super fun and interactive but not a character meal. Marakesh is awesome too. My kid loves the belly dancer! Saana is the best food on earth. Period. 50s PT is fun and silly but no characters Mexico (the one in the pavilion) is another favorite.

We really like Biergarten (we love German food). I haven't tried it yet, but friends just went to Ohana for dinner and said it was awesome so that's next on our list. We also like BOG (we've done both lunch and dinner).
