London during Christmas?

Has anyone been to London during Christmas? How was it? We're thinking of going from the 23rd to the 30th but I'm concerned that a lot of places will be closed.

You will have stuff closed on Christmas day and many things closed on Boxing Day (the 26th) but I don't recall things being closed more than in the US and I lived there for 3 years. The tube doesn't run on Christmas either.

the biggest adjustment coming from the US is how early it gets dark. There aren't a lot of hours of daylight that time of year.

Tourists places might be closed on Boxing Day, but if I remember correctly, it is a HUGE shopping day. I mean HUGE sales. Could be lots of fun if you like to shop.

The Christmas decorations around London are stunning.

Boxing Day is a huge shopping day. Some restaurants and stuff may not be open though.
