Sorry to go off-topic, but since I already "know" most everyone on this board this is the only one that I feel comfortable with right now. I've been thinking about my summer wardrobe and I want to get away from wearing jeans since it gets so hot here in the south. I'm thinking about purchasing some casual dresses to wear on weekends for when I go out on dates with my husband or out with friends, ect. Where can I find something that is age appropriate (late 30's) and budget friendly.
I love sundresses! The ones I wear most frequently are from Athleta and Lands End. Boden has very cute ones, too. None of those places are very budget friendly but they last the longest. I can't do Old Navy --I'm too short and too old. LOFT is okay but their quality is hit or miss.
I'm also from the south, so I'm with you on the need to beat the heat! I love dresses just for this reason. I usually wear sundresses during the day and sometimes maxi dresses in late evenings. Both are cute with either sandals or wedges and fun necklaces or earrings. That's easy enough for me!
With that said, I usually find good dresses at Target, Dress Barn, any department store (JC Penney, Macy's), Kohl's, and every now and then TJ Maxx and Marshalls will have some good finds too.

Target is my go-to for cheaper summer dresses. I'm short too and their XS usually will work out fine. Old Navy is hit or miss. I'm 4'11" for the record.
I've been getting stuff lately from JCrew Factory, Banana Republic, Loft and Nordstrom. They all have sales pretty regularly. I also have found some good dresses at Gap previously. Banana Republic has a factory store online that has some good prices. I've had a thing for Madewell lately too. I do buy shorts but I hate wearing shorts. I tend to veer towards dresses. I always find what I want, add it to my bag and then wait for a sale. I've also started using ebates which I really like.
What is the deal with this, anyway? I remember that LOFT used to be much higher quality than it is now. The past few times I've been there, I've noticed really crappy post-wash results. Like the one shirt that I washed & dried according to the tag, and it is now higher on one side than the other. I know it wasn't asymmetrical to start with! lol

I know! I still have stuff from LOFT in my closet that is 10 years old. Those pieces are basically indestructible. Newer things to need to be washed on cold and air dried in order to survive....yet it's more expensive. But they are one of the few stores with petites so I can't quit them.

And I have a few shirts from there that have gotten a hole in the seam. Like, 3 shirts this has happened to. I used to shop there all the time, but not so much anymore.
