Deck of cards (regular) Other card games (example: uno, CAH, etc.) Reading material: books, magazines, newspaper (newspaper doubles as fire starter) Board games (but be wary of losing pieces!)
You will need some entertainment! We mostly play cards for the whole weekend!
This is us. I don't know about you, but I have a "set" of things just for the camper. It was worth the expense, and if you plan on camping a lot, it would help to just have everything packed up in rubbermaid bins to throw in your car and take to the campsite.
I love our trailer, and would never go back to tent camping.
You couldn't pay me to tent camp. Besides, I kind of enjoy the reaction when people find out our camper has 3 TV's and 1.5 baths.
We still spend most of our time outside, doing all the quality family time stuff that makes camping so much fun. Just with the luxury of a hotel on wheels.

Will you have electricity? Taking a real coffee maker has been a game changer for me. I bought the cheapest one possible (like $10), and it stays with our camping stuff. Disregard if you are French press people, of course.
Where would one camp and have electricity?
That's not even camping to me anymore, lol. We don't even do campgrounds though.
Any campground. We always go to state parks. I'm not sure how electricity makes it not camping. We are not trying to win a roughing it contest, just have a fun and relaxing weekend.

We camped with friends who have ginormous trailers and most of the park was filled with ginormous trailers. So our campsite (could do trailer or tent and we were definitely in the minority with a tent) had an electric hook up. I have to say... it was kind of awesome, lol. We usually prefer more rustic sites, but for longer periods of time, it would nice to be able to easily recharge my phone/camera.

I'm sorry but I hate you, because I was just blinded by Luke Bryans fucking glow in the dark white perfect teeth in your avatar.
There is no way they are that naturally white, but damn he's so cute.
We only go camping at places we can get sites with electric so DH can use his cpap machine. And I bring a fan, so nice. So, extension cord, surge protector for our electric stuff. Beyond that just the basic stuff, tent, air mattress, tarp, extra pegs, mallet, flashlights, laterns, water, snacks. The places we go usually have on site snack bars or casual restaurants or we can easily drive somewhere for food. We don't have an easily portable grill so we don't really mess around with cooking. Sometimes we team up with friends who have a pop-up trailer and they will cook, and we will contribute food for that. Toiletries, sunscreen. Extra socks! I know I'm forgetting a ton because our car is always filled with crap when we go camping. So much crap you have to bring. That's probably why we haven't gone yet this year.

I haven't read most responses, but here goes.
- food, booze, water, gatorade (most people forget the last two, lol) We always kept food and beverage in separate coolers in case we had leaky chicken or something. Don't want to drink out of contaminated cans/bottles/whatever. Bring red solo cups for alcohol - most parks won't allow visible containers. - first aid kit - a way to charge your phone if you won't be near your vehicle - how will you be cooking? If on a grill, charcoal, lighter fluid, tongs/spatula. Seasonings. No reason for camp food to suck - bring whatever you normally use to cook. - extra ziplocs. You can use them for just about anything: make an ice pack, put in leftovers, dispose of anything smelly that might draw animals, if it rains, you can throw in your electronics and make them waterproof, and on and on. - an open mind and willingness to think outside the box.
I could probably go on, lol. I love camping, and it can be as easy or as complicated as you want to make it. Start out with an open mind, and jot down a note if you find yourself missing something more than once on a trip so you can bring it next time!
