Have those of you who have hit at least perimenopause discovered that you appear to be gaining weight much more easily. I swear I haven't changed my eating/drinking patterns and yet I'm gaining weight gradually. It's pissing me off as I'm reasonably active and I don't eat a ton or drink a ton. I'm not on a diet, so not expecting to lose weight, but I also didn't want to gain either. Boo!
I'm not sure I'm in perimenopause, but I have gained 7 kilos last year (probably too much wine and bread) and I have so much more trouble getting rid of it!

I have noticed that I have gained weight more easily, but I also have a problem with stress eating and last year was very, very stressful for me so I ate more and exercised less. Over 2014 I lost 45 pounds and then in 2015 I put back on 35.
What's really annoying to me is that I am now eating less and exercising more and I'm not losing the weight. I'm stuck about 20 pounds over my target weight and I really do not know what else I can to do to loose that weight. I've lost 10 pounds, but nothing seems to be working to get off the other 25 I re-gained.

I'm not in peri yet as far as I know, LOL. But yeah I seem to be gaining and haven't really changed anything in my diet. I haven't really had time to exercise lately but I plan on making the time this summer, so we'll see if anything changes.
I've even had to go out and buy some new pants that fit better
Yes, it is very frustrating because it seems no matter what I do I just gain more. I mean, I knew this was a thing for middle age, but wow. The difference is throwing me for a loop.
It gets worse at menopause and after. It's been slowly creeping up and I hate it. One thing I know that would help is regular one-hour long exercise, but I either don't have the time because of work or I'm not in the mood.
I'm looking forward to retirement which will help with being able to go to a class at 6 or 9 a.m. if I want. lol

I started putting on weight in my late forties/early fifties. Not much, but what I did put on just won't come off and it went on differently than in the past.
I probably wouldn't mind it so much if I hadn't been underweight for my entire life up until that time. I was used to that body. I had been chronically ill my entire life, but I changed my diet and got healthy and started to gain a bit. I loved where I was when I finally gained and kept on some weight, then menopause changed everything and I gained more. I guess it still isn't that bad, (and I feel ridiculous and petty feeling like I do when I am the size that I am) but this body is foreign to me and it has definitely affected me in a less than positive way.
I'm not looking forward to this. Why don't men get to deal with any of this? We have to do everything!
Actually, that's incorrect. Men go through dwindling testosterone levels and their bodies make more estrogen. They start losing muscle mass and collect more fat around their middles. While still drinking as much beer and eating as much ice cream as they did when they were young. lol
Annnnnd...there are ED concerns around 50 (maybe sooner, I don't know this for sure).

I have been gaining and losing the same 5 lbs since Januaury. And I'm still 10 lbs from where I and my Doc want me to be.
This is really starting to mess with my mind. I'm 11 lbs up from when I last saw H and to behonest, I kind of don't want to go on holiday anymore. I don't want him to see me like this.
YES! My metabolism was never that great in the first place, but now... even worse. I have to be extremely careful to maintain. Meanwhile, my H can cut out soda and lose 5 lbs in a week. RAGE!
This winter was a bitch. I've probably gained 5 lbs, just enough that none of my clothes from last summer fit comfortably. I just feel disgusted with myself and my eating habits. A whole new wardrobe is in my future, I guess. Shrug. Or maybe I'll just go for liposuction. Argh.
I'm through menopause, and yes, the weight is creeping on. I thought I was going to luck out and not gain a lot after starting Prozac a year ago, then I broke my foot, and (among other reasons) couldn't exercise for a while.
I should start WW. But I broke my toe last week, and I feel like giving up. Lol.
That's tough. Weight gain is frustrating, but breaking your foot and your toe has to be disheartening. Same foot?

I've always had a big booty. But now I have a tummy pooch and that's what annoys me.
I have to lose weight for my surgery. I've worked with my doctor and we got my blood sugar better regulated (not quite in the diabetic rage but all over the place). It's helped me drop 27 lbs so far (but not the doggone pooch!).
I think if I can give up soda that will help. But I've got so much else falling off my plate right now sometimes I just NEED a Pepsi or Dr. Pepper.
I'm putting a heater on the pool so I can get in regular exercise. So I'll see and just have to keep you posted.
I started gaining in my early 30s (after being underweight), but simple changes took/kept it off.
Now that I'm officially post-menopausal, it's like my gut has made a dramatic appearance, and I have to make more impactful changes to do something about it

I will say that weight lifting was the best thing ever and I need to get back to it. Even though it didn't make me lose weight, I ended up losing some fat and when I did lose weight, I looked a lot better than just losing weight alone. So, I just need to keep weight lifting a few times a week and introduce some cardio.
Yes! When I try to lose weight I basically just stay the same, except that the few pounds that I lose and regain come back in the middle. I used to have an hourglass figure and now I just have big boobs, big butt and the start of a blob in the middle that used to be my waist.
I'm going to be joining a gym next month so I can strength train. Osteoporosis runs on my mom's side, so I need to do it to keep my bones strong. Hopefully I will also have the benefit of at least distributing my weight back to the right places!
I am really trying to stay away from weight lifting for two reasons:
1) I'd like to get in shape NOW using methods that I'll be able to afford and continue with when I'm 80, so pilates, yoga, treadmill, etc 2) The gym bores me to tears. There is absolutely no enjoyment at all. ever. no endorphins, nada.

I agree. But I'd add swimming to the list of exercises I could continue... now if only I could get DH to enjoy it with me.

I plan on weight lifting into my late years - I've seen 80 year olds do it. And we own all our own equipment so it's possible. But yoga and pilates work, and you can do bodyweight work as well. I just hate yoga and pilates with a passion - they don't do it for me. I just feel good when weight lifting.

My mom will be 70 this year and has been going to the gym 5 days a week for 3 yrs now (since she's been retired). She does the various weight machines, some free weights and yoga and is very fit! I don't think she plans on stopping any time soon.
I like lifting weights, but don't have the room at home for equipment (I'm not comfortable with free weights). My son has a Total Gym that he never uses and I was thinking of using it.
