We stayed at WBC in April in a 2 bedroom and it was great. I booked through Vacation Strategy and it was around $118/night. We drove to the parks each day and never had any issue. In fact, I loved driving to the parks so much, I don't think we will ever rely on Disney transportation if we stay on site in the future. The condo was clean-ish. The only issue I had was that I didn't think the floors were clean enough so I just wore flip flops in the condo. I did miss having someone come in to clean each day but I just tossed the towels into the wash before leaving each morning and dried them when we got back. I would definitely stay there again. If you have any other questions, let me know.

See, dirty floors would majorly bug me, lol. Our son will be a toddler so I don't really want him sitting and playing in anything I wouldn't step bare feet on. I am a slight germaphobe, though, I'm already worrying a little about him catching something in the parks.
The carpeted areas weren't bad. I was ok with my son playing on those. It was more of the bathroom floors. Like, as soon as I got out of the shower in the morning, I would put my flip flops on. Same in the kitchen.

We stayed at this condo. The space was great, it was very clean. Parking was easy, and I didn't think driving to the parks was that bad. www.vrbo.com/377480#
Yes, just 1 kid, he's a toddler so I wanted him to have a dark, quiet space with a door.
We had a 2 and a 5 year old. The tradeoff is $$$ or location. We were able to stay on property in a 1 bedroom. We would have had to go off property for a 2 bedroom b/c they are so much more (plus most are lock-off anyway, so someone's sleeping in what looks like a normal hotel room). My strong preference is to stay on property.
I agree with all of this. We've done one bedroom suites with 2 adults and 3 kids twice. First time, the kids were 4, 4, and 15 months at Bay Lake Tower. DD and DS1 slept in the king size bed in the BR with DH while I slept on the pull-out sofa. DS2 slept in a crib in the bathroom off the bedroom (poor third child). Second time was at Art of Animation in the Nemo suites. The kids were 5.5, 5.5, and 2.5. Big kids slept in the queen size bed, DS2 slept in the crib in the bathroom again off the BR. DH and I slept on the pull-out sofa.
Both times, we could have easily switched it so kids slept on pull-out, Murphy bed, and crib in the main room with DH and I in the bedroom, but we like the freedom of sitting on the couch, using the kitchen, access to the fridge, etc. when the kids go to sleep. We've never felt like we needed a second bedroom--we'd rather use the month to stay on site.

The only 2 bedroom I have stayed at off property is Sheraton Vistana Resort. We were in the Lakes section of the resort which is in the back; it was pretty quiet at night.
Honestly I think a 2 bedroom is super overkill for only 1 kid. But it's highly unlikely that we'd ever stay off property - so cost is a factor for us since On property is more.
Are you set on off property? How does he usually sleep away from home? Keep in mind, kids are exhausted at Disney.
How about renting DVC points and getting a 1-bedroom at a DVC resort? One bedroom includes a separate living area w/ full kitchen and a pull-out couch for your kid.
ETA: If you want a dark space you could always bring an air mattress along and have kid sleep in master while you and your H hang out in living area, then sneak in once he's asleep. We have done that with both boys no problem. Some of the one-bedrooms also have a sleeper chair (twin size) that you could pull into master for him to sleep on as well.
I don't think a two bedroom is overkill. It either means you get the pullout couch (no thanks), you share a room, or you can't use the main living space at night. When we had one kid, we did a one bedroom at Marriot Harbour lake and ended up all sharing the bedroom so we could hang in the living room after bedtime. Great pool area but too far from Disney for me (it's near seaworld)
Next trip we did a two bedroom at the Sheraton Vistana Resort. Perfectly nice.
We got back from WBC a few weeks ago and loved it. No issues with cleanliness - our villa was spotless and huge. They were out of the regular 2 bedrooms when we booked so we did one of the Presidential suites. We would stay here again and probably presidential because it would be hard knowing how much more space we could have had, and these rooms were all recently upgraded, and a guaranteed high floor. Still really cheap for Disney - paid $150/night. Very close to Epcot and DHS.
I just like being in the bubble, not having to use a car seat for a week, easy to split up, options for putting kids to sleep in strollers and walking them straight into your hotel room from the park, etc.
We all plan for different reasons and have different priorities. I'm not concerned about getting around, I just don't want to be bothered.
AOA is certainly not a deluxe resort but it's themed fantastically and has a fabulous pool.
Oh, and I feel like I should mention one more thing on the cleanliness of WBC, we were in building 1 and I think that's a pretty old building. I will request one of the newer buildings next time. I really think WBC is great!
I also booked through Vacation Strategy. I contacted a few listings on Homeaway for availability and the one I chose turned out to be them. I'm not sure it was specifically stated in the listing though. A friend had used them as well so I wasn't concerned. Tripbound was another agency I was talking to.
I think the pricing on homeaway was better than listed on their actual site. I think this is the listing i contacted:

We were in building 6 (the pool with the pirate ship) and thought it was a good location! a bit of a walk to the pool with the splash pad (is that building one?) but right next door to the hotel, so we always parked in the hotel garage, this way the car wasn't a million degrees when we went back out in the late afternoon. And there was a Starbucks in the hotel.
Didn't really have any great food there, but we only did pizza and burgers a couple nights at the pool, not terrible but not great. Our room wasn't ready when we checked in and they did give us some vouchers for food/drinks without me asking which was nice.
We enjoyed our two bedroom at BLT but that would be more space than you would need for three people.
What about a suite at AoA? They have a bedroom with a door.
Isn't Art of Animation kind of basic? I'd rather pay more for nicer rooms off site. I'll look into it though!
I am a hotel snob. I love fancy hotels the way some people love nice purses. But, I LOVED AoA. It isn't luxury, but the theming is just incredible, and seeing how much the kids' loved it, was amazing. I definitely though, recommend getting rooms in the Nemo suites b/c they are closest to the food court, buses, etc.
I also loved that we had a playground right outside our room, giving the kids someplace to run free and play with no standing in line, being pushed and pulled, etc. Disney is so awesome, but for little kids, I always feel like there is a lot of telling them where to stand, making them wait, walking through lines, etc. so having the playground (it was too cold to swim in January) was really nice.
A 1 bedroom at AKL is MORE than enough space and relatively inexpensive points wise. I have stayed at a 2 bedroom at OKW ( MASSIVE) a studio at BLT ( tiny) a 2 bedroom at BLT ( very good sized almost too big for our party) a 1 bedroom at AKL ( awesome size) and a studio at Poly ( just right for three or 4 with one baby in a PnP.)
OH and a studio at OKW which was MASSIVE but DS wouldn't nap in it because he could see us.
We were in a 2bd at BLT and had 6 people and still had plenty of room, so I think a 1 bed would be more than enough.
FWIW our 2bd at BLT had 3 full baths and we put the PNP in the master bath and just used the full bath out in the living areas once E was in bed.
It was worth it for us to be on-site so we could go back for naps or a couple evenings after E was down, my parents stayed with her and DH and I went back to the parks.
Another vote for Sheraton Vistana. We went when our oldest was only 15 months so we were not planning on doing 16 hour park days. We had so much space, it was nice. My mom and sister came for a few nights and we weren't cramped at all. Two bedrooms plus two full baths, kitchen, living room and screened balcony.

But we upgraded to the presidential suite - so not this unit type in the end.
How did you end up upgrading?
The deluxe unit was no longer available so they offered me this one. It was only $300 more for the week. I liked this room better than ours at Vistana (and I think the WBC resort is laid out better - the walk from building to building is really nice around a lake, Vistana was negotiating a lot of roads and parking lots to get from section to section - ya huge) but may not be a fair comparison given the nicer room. For Vistana, my parents had a free getaway they gave us so we only paid taxes which was very small amount so totally worth it either way!
Last time we went to Disney ds was 4 and my mom came along as well. We wanted everyone to have space for better sleep and we wanted the option to do laundry and cook some meals. We stayed at this place: www.lbvorlandoresort.com/
not super fancy but it was nice, not too far from the parks, nice amount of space for everyone to have privacy when they needed it, etc. I'd stay there again. I enjoy staying on Disney property but with a kid for a long period of time (we went for 7 nights I think) it's nice for everyone to have their own room at the end of the day. And more than one bathroom lol! Worked out especially nicely since 3 out of the 4 us had the stomach flu for a couple days while we were there.

[br We've stayed here a few times, in 3 or 4 bedrooms. One of the four bedroom floorplans is HUGE and it was nice to have the space. It was not sparkling clean but was fine. The pool is great. Overall I prefer to stay at Disney but if off site with a car I would stay there again.
