January. It is so much nicer than being there when it is hot or crowded, and if you are going to AK, it is the best time for more animal activity. This year we had quite a few days in the 70s and 80s and only a few in the 50s.
February is normally when we get 'winter'....and it is usually only a few days of it. The last time we were at Epcot a couple of weeks ago, we were talking to someone about it having been low temps for more than two days this year and she said that she actually got to wear capris instead of shorts this winter. lol
we do an annual January trip and really enjoy it. MLK weekend is a bit busier, but it's not crazy.
We were able to swim one day our last trip. It wasn't super cold, but we wore long sleeves most days.
I love it that time of year.
I do love resort time and the flower and garden show, so April could also be nice, but if your spring break is the week before or after Easter week I wouldn't go. Any other time in April I'd consider it.
MLK doesn't necessarily mean it'll be cheaper or less crowded.
We would check in on Sunday and stay through the next week. Everything I've seen says it will get less busy mid week. Still debating staying off site too.

I was there the weekend after MLK in 2011. Crowds were fine (we went that weekend instead of MLK because of holiday weekend pricing combined with crowds), but it was chilly the entire time we were there. I wore jeans and my sweatshirt every day.
January. I went this past April and will never do that again. October is my preferred time but I would also consider January/February if I ever decide to go at any other time than October.

We've always gone in Jan and we've had mostly good luck with crowds, even on MLK weekend. Weather is hit and miss.. some years we had our winter jackets at night (and I live in MN, so winter jacket means a winter jacket, haha) but some years it's 70s and 80s.

January because you couldn't pay me to go over spring break. And FWIW, the disney pools are heated. One evening it was 60-65 degrees and DS still went swimming when we were there in february.
January would be 5 days, near MLK weekend. Pros- cooler, less busy, less costly maybe? Cons- probably no swimming.
April would be during our spring break. Pros- swimming. Cons- more expensive and hotter.
idk what to do.
I swam 3 times that same week of Jan last year. One time it was too cold, but I took DS in anyways. The pools are heated.
I LOVE that week leading up to MLK. Splash is usually just reopened, the weather is good, the crowds build over the course of the week. It's a nice week to be there.
