HALP. I posted awhile back that I came home to a for sale sign in our yard, the landlord is selling the house. We aren't in a position to buy right now, we will be in about a year but not quite there yet. There are NOOO rentals in my town right now. There are rentals in nearby towns, but H works about hour away in another state and the nearby towns would make his commute 20-30 mins longer. We don't want to move to the town he works in. We have until July 3 to find something or we are going to have to stay with my parents until something is available. Booooo! This sucks, man.
Is there any town around you that's closer to his job? Did you explore through a real estate agent/online/ask around? Our LL planned to sell the place where we were living and it drove us to look around to buy and ultimately we decided to relocate because house prices were way too high in our city.

No, we are in the town in our county/area closest to his job. Anything else would be going the other direction. Or moving to the town where he works, which we don't want to do.
I never understood being rude to your renters. Like why would they just put a for sale sign in your yard without talking to you? Don't they know that you basically control the sale of the house.
We walked into one rental house that still had tenants and omg it was so fucking gross. Our realtor told us that they were probably being forced out and try to make the house look unappealing so they still have a place to live.
I'm sorry, tbc. I hope something comes available soon.
Is there any chance you could negotiate a lease with the new owners?
They're buying it to live in, the same family is buying up the whole block. Every time a house in the neighborhood is up for sale they jump on it and buy. Literally the day it went on the market I walked into the backyard and the lady who is buying it was IN THE YARD asking to come in to look at it.
Could you work with you landlord and ask to stay till they sell? That could bridge you till you are in a position to buy depending on how quickly they sell.

Wtf why are they buying the whole block? Like they're a large family and want to live next to each other?

You might have to suck it up and live where he works.
Yeah we have talked about it but we aren't willing to move that way. We will stay w my parents until something is available here, its not ideal but something will come eventually. I'm just venting!

Yes it's so weird! It's like a multi generation family and extended family, some of them live directly behind us. The house across the street from us sold last year and it was someone from that house. Now someone else from their family is buying this house. They're just buying up the whole block.

Still might be worth asking. Obviously they're eager, but you never know -- maybe they are renting somewhere and have some time left on a lease and just wanted to make sure they didn't lose the property. They might be okay with a delay in actually moving in, especially if you make it worth their while.

Dear god no. Who wants to live next door to their family?

I agree. If they're currently living in a house on the same block, they may be OK waiting another 6 mo - 1 year to move in if its a sweet enough deal for them (& your landlord is able to put in a good word for you). They may have purchased before they were really ready to buy because they knew if they missed it now, it would be years before they could have that house. You MIGHT be doing them a favor, too. It never hurts to ask!

Well, OP apparently prefers to live *with* hers vs renting for a year and shortening her DH's commute time.

I mean, staying with them for a month or two until something is available isn't ideal but we would rather do that than move an hour away to another state, removing my kids from their schools and clubs and support system. I actually brought up moving there to him, although I would rather stay here, but he was pretty adamant about wanting to stay in our town.

If your DH doesn't want to live in the town where he works, could you consider moving to a town on the other side of WorkTown to be closer or have an equidistant commute to what you have now?
