I have a DVC split stay on the schedule for 7 nights in December -- 4 nights at Boardwalk Villas and 3 nights at Bay Lake Towers. I just booked airfare and decided that in order to get 7 full days in the park, I need to fly in a day early. There is no availability at Boardwalk Villas via DVC on December 11th, so I am looking into a few different options. (We are taking Magic Express from the airport and I'm not doing the DDP, if that makes a difference?)
Apparently there is studio availability at Kidani (standard view) or Saratoga Springs. For the same price, I can book a value resort through Disney or just splurge and do one of the moderates. OR....I can spend $$$ and get one bedroom villa at Old Key West or Wilderness Lodge. (Which still puts me below the nicest hotels)
My kids will be 4 and 6 at the time of the trip -- our flight lands at 6pm so we won't be doing much other than grabbing a bite to eat at our resort before bed, then heading to the park for a full day on the 12th. (And checking our bags with bell services)
Have you considered staying at the airport hotel and then catching ME first thing the next morning?
I thought about it, but Kidani is running $160 for the night and when I think about having a full day in the parks the next day, I'm not too upset about that cost.
We're leaning towards Animal Kingdom since the kids can enjoy the campfire and night vision goggles to see the animals....then maybe get a Tusker House reservation for breakfast.

That is a nice plan if you're going to AK the first day. I'd still lean towards a value a bit more to save the money.

The All Star Resorts are at $135 for the night..... DH and I sleep in a King bed at home, so the full size bed might be a major issue. So I just put in a request for the Kidani Village room.....hopefully the crowd calendars will come out soon for December and I can verify that Animal Kingdom is a good park to start with the next day!
