Whoa, that's nuts! We also have an old house and a few weeks ago I found a mushroom growing in a crack between the frame of our front door and the floor.
Our house is over 100 years old so I know there are some gaps in the flooring here and there but wtf at this weed invading my home. UP THROUGH THE CARPET?? And how did it get so big without anyone in the family noticing? It's like one of those chin hairs that sprouts overnight. Gross.
OMG your analogy about how a chin hair can get to be that same length before you notice it is spot on! How long did it take that weed growing up through your carpet inside your house (which, wtf to that to begin with!) without any of you noticing! That's wild (see what I did there?)
Ooh, that could be, esp if the carpet was damp. OP did you shampoo the rugs recently?
No. And H just pulled it out (heh). I'm not EVEN going to TELL you how long that damn runner was.
OK, I'll tell you. At LEAST 10 ft. long. The part you see there was the only green part. The rest was dry/dead.
Omg. I also have a damp crawlspace and the former owners had a hole in the floor for some wire and I'm sure H didn't seal it correctly. So I feel like I need to know more here. 10 ft long? Like 10 ft down into the hole, or 10 ft across the floor under the carpet on its way from the hole?
I'm way too embarrassed to show the picture of what he pulled out through the hole and I don't even want to see how bad/big the hole is. H said he would check things out tomorrow but that it's not water leaking from anything. Just the normal dank conditions of a crawl space under a house. Right? RIGHT?!?!
Yeah, I'm gonna need to see that picture.
And plants totally do that. We did experiments in kindergarten where we planted a seed and then built a shoebox structure around it- the plant would grow sideways, diagonally, whatever to get to the light.
Oh we definitely need a pic! I am just curious if you have ivy that grows on your house? It could be one little one made it way through. Just a thought.
