I don't know what bainbridge island is. It's not really a suburb. It's more rural than that. But what's so appealing to me is how close it is to the city. I grew up in the country so I'm definitely more at ease there than the city. But really, I'm probably more of a suburb girl.

I've always loved in the suburbs, but I can see myself in a city, too. Maybe that's because I work in Seattle and would be very pleased to not have to commute.
I am very much country life. I love having my space and not having others right on top of us. I want the kids to have the space to just run around and have animals/I want space for a few big animals (cows) and chickens.

Country, with no neighbors, cities are for visiting... I do wish we had more theater/concert options in the boonies though; we have to travel to Portland or Seattle any time we want to see a big show (recently Weird Al, The Book of Mormon, The Magic Flute, and next weekend we're seeing Sweeney Todd).
ETA: I never realize where I'm posting (Seattle group), I live in the gorge.

I don't really think of Ballard as being "city life", but it fits the criterion of being able to walk to most things and that is one of our favorite things about living here. Suburbia is not for us.
I'm like a cross of suburbia/city. I really like to be able to have some things within walking distance as a good excuse destination to get me moving more, but I don't like being super-in city. While I don't like apartment living at ALL, Magnolia was nice for being pretty walkable but feeling suburban neighborhood wise. It was a mostly flat 1-mile walk to get to the Thriftway to pick up something, library and 1.5 miles to the little downtown area.
I like the size of our neighborhood and the ease to get to grocery, etc but it's kind of enforced driving as the hill we're on is massive and not possible for me to walk back up.

I love the burbs...and my Target having a parking lot and not having to pay for parking when we go to dinner. And the fact that our street has block parties and we mingle w/our neighbors.
