I'm new to all-over color, and I've only ever had my hair highlighted a few times, so I'm not sure if this is normal.
My summer highlights faded terribly, so we decided to cover it with all over color. My natural color is black-brown and she colored my hair to dark brown, which wasn't what I wanted at all, but she said it would fade. It's now 19 days later and my hair is a medium golden brown...not quite what I wanted, but better.
But this isn't normal, right? You want the color to stay the color you get in the salon, right? I'm using the sulfate free color-safe shampoo she told me to. I have no idea what brand of color she uses - it's not a big name that I'd remember. Should I find someone else? Or does hair color really just fade like crazy on some people? Thanks.
Since you were covering blonde, you will fade pretty quickly since lightening the hair make it porous. If you continure to keep up with the darker coloring, it will start to last longer. It also depends on the color that was used (whether it was permanent, demi, semi).
My natural color is a light brown/dirty blonde and I get it colored a rich brown. I got it done last about 3 weeks ago and just noticed it start to fade a bit.
I use permanent professional color (Redken), and my hair color starts to fade noticeably about 4-5 weeks in. I have dark brown/black hair naturally, and lighten it. I notice more fading in the summer since I'm out in the sun, and less in the winter. But my hair doesn't seem to hold color long.
