DH and I are headed to Door County this summer for our 5 year wedding anniversary. We've never been before and have some tentative activities planned but would love recommendations for other must-dos or good places to eat.
We are avid hikers and plan to spend most of our time outdoors. We are staying at a B&B in Fish Creek for 5 nights. So far, I have the following as things I'd like to do: -Hike at Peninsula State Park, Whitefish Dunes State Park and Cave Point County State Park. (Any other parks we should check out for good hikes?)
-Take the ferry to Washington Island to check out lavender festival and then continue on the second ferry to Rock Island to do some hiking.
-Explore the shops in all the small towns in NorDoor.
-Visit some of the wineries on the peninsula for tastings
Any other popular or recommended activities?
So far, the only restaurants I have down as "must do" are Wild Tomato for pizza, Waterfront for a nice anniversary dinner, and many people have recommended Fred and Fuzzy's for casual waterfront food. We love pretty much all cuisines and price point does not matter. Any other recs?
* Rent bikes and bike in peninsula state park. It's a 10mile loop. * there's a drive in just past fish creek. There's also mini golf a bit more north. Pirates cove. * the Cookery is great food. Esp the fried perch. Not too casual not too fancy. * lots of lighthouses to tour * Seaquist orchard has awesome sweets and food goodies. Cherry and apple pie! * Stillwaters for a burger and people watching.

Wilsons in Ephraim is great...a little diner for burgers and EXCELLENT milk shakes. We really enjoyed renting a boat if you're up for that. We rented in Sister Bay. Right by that dock is Al Johnsons Restaurant. We have never eaten there but they have a cute gift shop and a grass roof with real goats grazing....it's something to see! In Fish Creek, the fish boil at Pelletiers is fun. We also really like the food at Gibraltar Grill. Have a great time. We go every year and love how relaxing and picturesque it is.

I love Door County. Some of our favorites *Alexanders for a nice dinner - it's right outside of Fish Creek. *Simon Creek Winery - they have free tastings - buy a bottle of your favorite along with some cheese and drink it on their patio overlooking the vineyard- beautiful. *Door County Bakery for corsica bread *Eat at Good Eggs for breakfast. All they serve is breakfast burritos and it's amazing. *Note Ephraim is a dry city so a heads up if you eat there and want a drink. There was talk about changing it but I don't know if it passed yet. * We went to the Hands On Art Studio on our honeymoon and made a beautiful glass sculpture - if that's up your alley. We haven't been back since then but it's a nice souvenir.
And I think someone just posted on the Trip Advisor Door County forum that Ephraim did start serving alcohol--I think it was super recent. I'll be honest, it being a dry town played into our decision to not stay there originally lol.
I would get to rock island early so that you can go around the entire island without worrying about getting on the last ferry. If I lived closer I would go out there at least every other year.
-The far side of the island used to support a small town and you can still tell where the buildings used to be.
-There are some cool carvings in the stone that the workers on the Thoradson buildings did a bit past the main campground.
-There are live-in tour guides at the lighthouse.
-If the hike in sites are unoccupied they are a great place for resting.
Cave Point is pretty cool with the cairns, but I didn't think that I needed more than 30 minutes there. It isn't terribly large and can get crowded. I haven't been to schoolhouse beach yet, but it is on my to-do list.

As pp mentioned, yes, it is no longer dry. But I don't even think there is a grocery store there? It's SUPER tiny. We stayed in Ephraim last year, and we just bought some booze at the grocery store in Sister Bay, I think.
If you like mini golf, you have to go to Red Putter. It's old and run down and fucking awesome.
