I hated the Wilderness Lodge, it was my least favorite of any of the hotels we have stayed at. It was so dark, our room was sub-terranean and the bunk beds made it even darker.

I wasn't crazy about it either. It is a neat building but it doesn't feel "Disney" to me. And, the rooms theming did nothing for me.
we really loved it there... but i grew up in a log cabin, and we're really into that whole national park/woodsy theme. i like that everything is one building, its easy to get around. DS loved the pool with the water slide, and the new kid's splash playground thing. also liked having a balcony to hang out on. the boats were great to get to MK, or to the contemporary for chef mickeys (or to walk into MK). on the boats, you do have to fold the stroller up. And for the buses, I do remember stopping at the contemporary or grand floridian or something... but can't remember where we were going to...
we loved it there, and would be staying there again this year, if it wasn't for all the DVC construction going on there now...

Depends on the boat. The smaller boats, yes, you have to fold the stroller. The larger boats, no.
I like WL overall. It's a small resort with a more intimate feel. That said, we had a really shitty room last time, so we've stayed at other properties since then.
The large boat you do not have to fold strollers. Seems like the direct to MK I have always gotten on a large one. The one that circles WL, CR and FW is smaller and you have to fold strollers.
My experiences with busses is direct to MK and shared with FW to EPCOT and HS and shared with the GF to AK. The sharing is actually a nice way to get to the GF for an ADR. I have always had excellent luck with WL busses.
With the construction I would avoid it for this year and next. I worry what the end resort is going to be like. For me it has always been a great hotel for the price and I love being bad to pop over to the MK for at least part of most days.

That's interesting b/c I've heard such great things. I think the rooms were recently refurbed; or am I making that up?
Then again, I love the national parks type lodge theming.
We absolutely loved it. The pool, the restaurant (Whispering Canyon? I think), the boats, the campfire, all of it. And the bunkbeds are a must for us with the boys. Neither one can share a bed with anyone else so we always look for places with bunk beds.
leeba25, were the bunk beds at Wilderness Lodge or the Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort?
I looked at WL and didn't see any options with bunk beds. The only rooms that sleep more than 4 are Club Level or the Villas. I'm just thinking about a WDW trip at this point but need a room that will sleep a family of 5.

They were at the Wilderness lodge. The cabins sleep even more, but this was just a single bunk bed room. So it was a queen bed, plus the bunk beds (twin over twin). Maybe they don't consider that to be sleeping 5?

Thanks leeba25, I'll have to take a closer look at WL.

I loved WL. We stayed there in December, and the holiday decorations were beautiful. I liked that everything was under one roof. The boat to MK was convenient, but we had to fold up our stroller.
With that said, I prefer Yacht and Beach because they're convenient to two parks, and I Iove the pool.
