The passenger side is usually the sidewalk side when parked so I thought that was safer for the toddler to get into the car on that side.
I'm trying to figure out how this is true and wondering if I'm a moron for saying what I said above, but no, I am about 90% certain that it really depends on where we park. And, in fact, when I am with both kids by myself, I aim to park where I can get the passenger side on the sidewalk, since DS's RFing seat is installed on that side now and I need the sidewalk while I get him in and out. Getting DD in and out of the car is a lot faster, so I don't care if her seat is on the traffic side. But there ARE times that the only spot I find to park ends up with her on the sidewalk side.
I am overthinking this.
I didn't need any time to get my baby in her infant seat since it clicked into the base. My older daughter would need to be buckled in, which I did from the sidewalk. Also, I could put the bucket down on the sidewalk if I had to when helping my daughter take off her coat or whatever.
By the time my youngest was out of the bucket seat, my oldest was in a FF seat and could open the car door and get in by herself, which was easiest and safest from the sidewalk. I would tighten her straps from the driver's seat when I got in the car.
ETA - Since your DD is much older than your DS, your set-up makes sense for you (my kids were <2 years apart).
In my van, DS1 is FF behind the driver seat and DS2 is in the middle that way we can still use the middle row passenger-side seat to access the 3rd row if needed.
In DH's truck DS1 is in the middle and DS2 is on the passenger side because DS1 can climb into the middle and buckle himself in, it is easier for me to buckle DS2 when he is near the door rather than leaning into the middle.
We haven't put the base in for DS3 yet, so we will probably have to rearrange seats, most likely baby will go on the passenger side in both vehicles.

DS is RF behind the driver, so we will put DS2 Behind the passenger. I like having the kid on the drivers side as its easier. Which is why DS1. has always been there (can't do a center seat install inout car). I feel guilty about moving DS1 from his Plac even though I'd kind of like the baby on that side.
