I am team Poly for life, though the contemporary has some fun memories too. Will you be doing any days of just the pool? The Poly has a brand new pool and kids area so that may be more fun. Also the theme is so neat and really helps get you into the Disney spirit. You can walk to TTC from Poly, but Magic Kingdom from Contemporary.
We are doing 1 day of just pools and relaxing. This will be a long trip for us since I am not sure when we would be able to do another WDW trip. We are staying 11 nights, 8 days at the parks and 1 off day for pools and relaxing. Right now I am planning to do 3 days at MK, 2 days at Epcot, 2 days at HS and 1 day at AK. I am hoping this will be enough time at each park to be able to do quite a bit of stuff.
We stayed at the Poly in early May. We really liked it. We never stayed at the contemporary, but from what friends have said, they prefer Poly. I liked being on the monorail and you can walk to the TTC monorail to get directly to Epcot, too.

Very similar to our trip. We stayed 6 nights and 8 days at the parks. 3 at MK, 2 at EP, 2 at HS and 1 Day at AK. That was perfect for us.
I would go Poly 100% - I just greatly prefer the feel, you might go on YouTube and watch the Dis Unplugged 7in7 on both of them. I'm on my phone or I'd link but just search 7in7 Poly and 7in7 contemporary and you'll get there

I'd pick Polynesian. Wonderful hotel. It was awesome to be able to see the MK fireworks every night from the Polynesian's beach. It was nice to have boat transportation to MK if you wanted something different than the monorail. The pools were great. Kona Cafe for breakfast is a must.
My friend stayed at the Contemporary and she said their room shook every time the monorail passed through the hotel.
I've never actually stayed at either of them, but I would definitely pick the Poly. Their lobby is gorgeous, as I assume, is the rest of the hotel. The Contemporary reminded me of a bus depot/ run down old hotel.
Poly, no contest. While walking to MK is a nice benefit, we actually enjoy the boat ride from Poly, contemporary is just NMS at all. You can't beat watching fireworks fro the beach at the Polynesian (although you could do that anyway), and it's just such a nice vibe at the Poly. The Contemporary feels like an Atlantic city casino to me.
