First, I want to say thank you to everyone for the PMs and good thoughts. I want to give a huge shout out to snipsnsnails and underwaterrhymes for doing everything possible for me to make it to Chicago. Unfortunately, it just didn't work out, but I'm so grateful to have met such a generous group of women here.
Funeral- It went fine. My dad didn't want to show up at my grandma's until about 30-45 min before to limit interaction and it worked out. My uncle was decently behaved and made a few snide comments, but my dad did well. I was shocked that my aunt tried her hardest to make my dad feel like a part of the family. I heard her repeat to my other aunt and my uncle to go hug my dad, talk to him, etc. She has always had a weird relationship with my dad, but I thanked her for doing it. She also made people move so my dad could sit towards the front and next to her. She made me sit next to her, too. Apparently she held me the whole time during her mom's funeral and wanted me there for her dad's. A few of his cousins came and he was excited to see them after 20 years.
My dad admitted to me at lunch beforehand that he thinks he may "be a little depressed." I've been trying to have this conversation with him for years and I'm glad he finally admitted it. I made him promise me that if he isn't feeling better by the end of the month that he would seek counseling. He also promised to work on himself more. We went to a book store to walk around and found this randomly: How to Be Happy. He immediately started reading it once we got back to the hotel. It's going to be a ton of gentle pushing, but at least we're on some kind of track. I also told my sister, and she's going to keep an eye on him at home.
Trip- I decided against going after playing around with flight costs. Thankfully, that worked out. My flight from Phx to Denver got cancelled and I would not have made the flight from Denver to Chicago that I planned on taking. I was also just not in a frame of mind to be fun and happy. Haha. I also missed out on meeting Madeleine Albright with fuckyourcouch, though Bright side- my husband found out late Saturday that he was getting promoted in the military on Sunday, so I was able to make it to that!
Dog- Kenny did well during surgery and his tumor was benign He's tired of his cone of shame, though. Hopefully he will get to take it off after his follow up tomorrow.
Again, thank you guys for your kind words. I've already committed to making this week better and getting back into a routine.
