I was pretty disappointed with the follow up book to Red Queen. I was ready to give it 2 stars until the last chapter or so. Even then, it was a predictable ending with a gratuitous cliff hanger. I'm ambivalent on reading the next book at this point.
Sorry, I haven't. I just wanted to thank you for the recommendation for Red Queen, which I (embarrassingly?) hadn't heard of. After reading reviews, I just ordered/ added to my list- thanks
I'm with you. It definitely suffered from the dreaded second book slump unlike say another recent second book in the series I can think of.
I think I gave it three stars. It was fine but nothing outstanding. I read it a few months ago and barely remember the details of the book now. I enjoyed it enough that I will read the next book in the series though.
I thought Red Queen was just ok and so I wasn't planning to read the sequel. Every goodreads friend/person I follow who has read Glass Sword (5 people so far), have all rated it 3 stars or lower, so seems like your impression is the general consensus.

Red Queen is on my "hold" list from the library. (Damn kindle book hold lists!) So, is it worth reading the second one at all? Or should I treat this book as a standalone with a cliffhanger and make up my own ending?
Also on my hold list is "Snow Like Ashes" which was recommended to me after reading A Court of Mist and Fury. Anyone read it?

The first book is most definitely unfinished, but not a cliffhanger IIRC. The second is as well, but has the stupid, roll your eyes, cliffhanger. I liked Red Queen overall, and if you think you can have the will power to stop there I wouldn't blame you. Or, at least wait until #3 comes out next year and see if it makes up for the second. Goodreads says there are 4 total planned so far.
I really liked Snow Like Ashes. I've read the second as well and I'm looking forward to the next one in the fall.
ETA: I don't think Snow Like Ashes is A Court of Mist and Fury level (what is?), but still really enjoyable.
